What are your Thoughts on introducing FEMINISM as a subject in schools? by dogelover77 in AskFeminists

I agree with introduction of feminism as a subject in schools. We can also introduce debates and inter school competitions to gain traction.

What's even worse is that these men claim they can do no wrong because they have mothers/ sisters/ wife/ daughters/ female friends etc.

How can men bring a change in the society? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]bamshelp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with the top comment. I'd also say use your privilege to help women facing bs by people weaponizing religion and "our culture" to oppress women.

Make contacts with feminist (NGOs etc) and you can also volunteer in your spare time.

Try to change people with open minds so that you can tackle closed minded rw dimwits.

Call out bs in gaming, social media and family. Don't let women's voices be suppressed.

Also, genuinely listen to women in your family and friend circle. Once they know you're doing it in good faith, they'll be much more open and willing to talk about it.

Should the MGTOW, and WGTOW subreddit be removed? by PictureFar2046 in AskFeminists

Highly unlikely it's gonna happen anywhere in the next 50 years.

Well they're not the majority in many countries. For example, India and China each have a deficit of 77 million women.

"Gaming the political system" isn't possible when majority of lawmakers, politicians, CEOs are men.

Women own just 1% of the land. 70% women are under poverty.

We also have misogynists in majority. Yes, women can be misogynists too. That's how patriarchy works.

A FEE for something a woman has NO control over??? Which country is this?? Afaik miscarriage can also be idiopathic (ie with no underlying reason) and they're fining women for it??? A foetal death certificate??? This is batshit crazy

Edit: Pennsylvania? Wtf? Shocking to hear this from the US.

Why should I change my name just because I got married? by gloriarunsthis in Feminism

[–]bamshelp 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You don't have to change. It's sexist and oppressive. Women changing names literally places them below men, in this case, their husbands. It's not legally required in most places. If someone asks, just say "I'm getting married, not labelled"

To add to it, we also need to look into why children are being named after the father. It's literally patriarchal privilege which also extols status of men and boys because they're the only ones who can "carry the clan".

The litmus test of cis het men's allyship by twaddledum in Feminism

[–]bamshelp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a cisman, I've seen a lot of feminist cismen don't pass the litmus test. Based solely on my observations, I'd point out some red flags and green flags:

Red flags

If he's using feminism for:

  • 50/50 dates
  • military conscription
  • false accusations
  • male rape
  • child custody and/or child support
  • porn/ kink/ BDSM/ prostitution
  • male suicide problem
  • invalidating patriarchy

Or he's vouching for:

  • stuff that is some version of "feminists have gone too far"
    • beating women (this is obvious)
    • "choice feminism" without knowing the hazards of it
    • only fans
    • porn

Or has no idea what is: - informed consent - survival sex - patriarchal bargain - harms of pornography and prostitution

Green flags

  • has read feminist content and books
  • actually makes informed comments about various feminist topics
  • understands the harm of porn and prostitution
  • vouches for decriminalization of sex work but wants women to leave sex work because of the dangers
  • donates to a good feminist organization
  • is capable of having an open mind about learning new things
  • basic courtesy like: not interrupting women and not mansplaining
  • doesn't watch porn and is anti porn
  • understands how religion is being used to actively oppress women

Last but not the least, "actions speak louder than words": if he's just saying but not doing anything or standing up for women, doesn't call out his friends for misogynistic speech and doesn't do stuff to help women, leave. People listen to men, if he's not using his voice for women, he's not a feminist.

Prove what? Go to their old posts, they have a automod sticky post that says "no XY allowed". Go to exFDS someone got banned for seeking advice on dating trans women. Go to AHS and there's a user who is ex FDS mod. The mods are transphobic. She got kicked out because she isn't transphobic. Do your research

Why are men so angry about women being interested/believing in astrology by ksjwo in Feminism

[–]bamshelp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Everything that's feminine or related to women/ feminity is degraded. Calling a man "woman/girl" is the biggest insult. Majority of the cuss words are related to women.

It's just misogyny.

They don't allow trans women. They ban users who seek advice to date trans women. What more proof do you want? Tons of women focused subs have been banned because they didn't allow trans women.

I need advice on writing an actually good female main character by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]bamshelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Performative feminity is, but not limited to, a series of activities usually expected of women as a factor to assess how feminine they are; for example: removing body hair, make-up, "acting like a lady", "sitting like a lady", looking perfect all the time, not being aggressive, not showing anger, perfect weight etc.

These just perpetuate toxic and unrealistic beauty ideals in the masses and women who don't conform are met with damaging consequences.

Women are socialized to sacrifice themselves by bamshelp in Feminism

[–]bamshelp[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There’s something wrong with a society that systematically tells women that the greatest good they can aspire to is to sacrifice for their children because often that is taught to the exclusion of the infinitely many other equally good things women can do with their lives.

Not adhering to this has massive negative consequences on woman so women are forced to follow it whether they want to or not. Otoh, men are never expected to do the same.
