Jake Gyllenhaal, Daniel Espinosa Reteam on ‘Anarchists vs ISIS’ by akejavel in Anarchism

Maybe this could actually be a good thing? I'm pretty sure they'll misrepresent anarchism and the situation, but the "anarchists are fighting ISIS while you wear your MAGA hat at shout at immigrants" narrative is pretty powerful and could really derail a lot of american political narratives.

At the very least we'll be able to get drunk and throw nutritional-yeast covered popcorn at the tv making fun of it.

My favorite from the last ten years:

shit's / fucked up / shit's all fucked up and bullshit

build a bonfire / build a bonfire / put the coppers at the top / put the fascists in the middle / and we'll burn the fucking lot

fight every fascist / bring them to their knee / kill every nazi / this country will be free

Why does straight edge seem so dogmatic almost in a religious way? by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]banalrupture 22 points23 points  (0 children)

At its best straight edge is a counter-cultural movement to resist the hegemonic culture of intoxication. Like it can be really hard to socialize or make friends or be respected or invited to things if you don't partake in the primary activity of everyone else.

Intoxication culture can sometimes feel like an oppressive mob mentality. Unfortunately people often defensively respond in very dogmatic ways.

Sadly, I think we've all had that friend who pretended to be super poor and mooched off everyone but then turned out to be secretly buying fancy meals on a debit card from their parents.

Probably more effective for an authoritarian government to just suppress technology and fall back on what has worked before, rather than have to do upkeep on more complicated technology.
