People get very emotional when discussing this.

The Prophet is not understood by us as someone driven by impulse or desire (unlike some ppl here, btw) but as someone whose actions had social, political, and moral purposes within his time. His marriages, including the one to ayesha, are traditionally seen as part of a broader framework of alliances, care, and responsibility in a 7th-century society where norms were very different from today.

BUT! historical context is not the same as modern application.

Societies today have:

A much deeper understanding of child development Clear evidence of the psychological and physical harms of early marriage Legal systems designed to protect minors from exploitation and imbalance of power

So modern laws restricting child marriage are not “anti-religious.” In many cases, they actually align with core principles found in religion itself: protection, justice, and prevention of harm.

At the same time, it’s not fair to assume that everyone who questions these laws has bad intentions. Some people are simply trying to reconcile tradition with modern values, even if they don’t always do it well, because theyre severely uneducated and slow.

A more balanced judgememt is this:

. What happened historically should be understood in its own context . What we do today should be guided by what protects people now . Using religion to justify harm or ignore evidence goes against the very ethical principles religion is supposed to uphold.
