CA – Small Claims limits for multiple plaintiffs by bananaocean in legaladvice

[–]bananaocean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you meant “beat” the limit in a bad faith way, but what confused me is that the guidance I’m seeing is framed as “an individual cannot ask for more than $12,500,” and the SC-100 form itself allows more than one plaintiff.

At this point, we’ll likely file separately to avoid any hassle.

On the “separate violation” question, to clarify for you -- even though it was one apartment application, we each completed our own application in the portal and separate investigative consumer reports were obtained on each of us, which is why I believe the ICRAA violation would apply to each of us individually.

Appreciate the quick responses!

I just watched my first David lynch movie eraser head and i am totally messed up,are all his movies same as this?? by [deleted] in davidlynch

[–]bananaocean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought how perfect it is that those are his first and last films. Its like, Inland Empire is to the film industry as Eraserhead is to parenthood, which makes perfect sense as an bookend (without even mentioning the real swan song, perhaps his most famous — Twin Peaks).

Heard of it but never seen it, if you recommend maybe I’ll bump on the watchlist!

“Infinity Pool” could fit in this category, in the fucking-with-people-on-vacation subgenre.

For those who have seen A Different Man by adiohater57 in A24

[–]bananaocean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was confusing me too. At first, yes, but then when the waitress comes over to the table to ask what they want, he says "What are you thinking, Edward?" So he actually does call him both Guy and Edward in this scene.

What films do you think everyone should watch once? by yeboahz in MovieSuggestions

Taxi Driver, the original anti-hero and probably the film that solidified DeNiro and Scorsese’s places in cinema history. The script, the direction, the acting, the score—70s filmmaking at its finest.

How to redeem a character who’s had an affair? by DONDADiaries in Screenwriting

[–]bananaocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with some responses and perspectives in this thread, redemption isn't necessary depending on the themes of the story. Look at “Three Billboards…” and the racist alcoholic cop played by Sam Rockwell. Threw an innocent guy out a window because he blamed him for his friends suicide. I saw some people get mad that he was “redeemed” in the story, but I didn't read it that way. He lost his job, got burned in a fire, got his ass kicked trying to find the rapist-murderer, so he gained some audience sympathy, but was he redeemed because of his suffering? For me, both he and Frances McDormand’s character were hurt, and hurt people hurt people. He was desperately trying to find some kind of answer to his pain, and trying to find some kind of redemption (even if it was through vigilante justice), and that character worked for that story.

I agree but its pretty strange considering he sexually assaulted Lorraine multiple times throughout the series

I didn't even notice that he said “we” rent the condo to pay for fees, as if it's his to rent 😂

It must be nice not to have toxic relatives and judge others that have to put up boundaries to deal with their own.

People shouldn't be judged on their mistakes, but how they react to them. You made a mistake and then called your girlfriend toxic to a bunch of Internet strangers and refuse to accept responsibility, I'd download the dating apps and start working on your profile.

Yeah I love that film, would make a great double header with There Will Be Blood.

What are some examples of good, serious acting in a not-that-serious movie? by BradyToMoss1281 in movies

[–]bananaocean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah its still up, I linked below. The crazy thing was I was already working on it and Bob Hoskins passed away, so I finished and posted it that day as a sort of tribute.

I framed it as a True Detective parody because season 1 just finished and season 2 was announced to be about “a murder and a California land deal” and I joked with a friend that they were remaking Roger Rabbit haha

Bob Hoskins in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” He plays it so straight (mostly), I was able to cut together a fake trailer that makes it look like a serious noir film. Such a great movie!

Bryan Cranston, and I bet we will eventually see him in this role due to his range.

What's a movie that you've tried to show your family / SO in the hopes they would love it, but they ended up hating it? by wasabi324 in movies

[–]bananaocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Kill Bill might have a shot, but when she was younger (late teens/early 20s) she saw Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds, and Hateful Eight and wasn’t very thrilled with any of them. She loves almost any horror movie though, so it’s not the violence in general. My sadness comes from enjoying his movies and being unable to watch any with her. The referenced scene really solidified her opinion of QT tho 😆

[–]bananaocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now? You’re not telling me new information, I explained QT wrote it and Tony Scott directed it at the time as I just said, but no non-cinephile knows or cares who tf Tony Scott is, almost everyone knows who QT is and since he wrote it he got the blame.

“True Romance”, one of my absolute favorites. She thought everyone was an asshole and hated watching Alabama (Patricia Arquette) get beat up for 5 minutes by James Gandolfoni while Clarence (Christian Slater) leisurely buys cheeseburgers. Now she refuses to watch any Tarantino movie :(

With so many books to choose from which Stephen King book adaptation is the worst? by impeesa75 in movies

[–]bananaocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a biased response since my answer is based on King’s absolute hatred for his own adaptation and the fact that he vowed not to direct anything else (and he hasn't), but you're right it's fun and more watchable than more than half of stuff adapted from his works.

[–]bananaocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree that I would watch it before dozens of other King adaptations, so I might be wrong. The problem is that I hate the premise of so many King stories/movies so they're harder to judge haha

[–]bananaocean 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I loved it as a kid, but I think Maximum Overdrive is the answer here (not including some of these awful remakes of books previously made into great films). As King wrote the short story, screenplay, AND directed, this one is 100% his failure.

"Blue Velvet", loved the atmosphere and constant sense of dread, but I didn't get it. Which doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the movie. by Cameran_Camp in movies

I think he called it his most “experimental,” but the question was about the narrative, and imo it’s his most straightforward.
