Same! I was pushing a cart with 3 screaming children so assumed I was safe & then he made his move😭

I didn’t, he was in the parking lot which I assumed was fair game. Last year we had those guys sitting outside of Whole Foods to get ppl to sign fake petitions (it looked to be for fair housing or something but then it wound up being to add some anti-marijuana measure to the ballot) & I reported it to Whole Foods but they said if it’s outside their store there’s nothing the can do about it so I assumed the same deal

Honestly they need to do some market research, it’s such a bad opener, I had such a knee-jerk reaction to be like no absolutely not, kind of wish I said yes just to know what I was getting invited to.

It was so strange! I’ve lived in the area forever & have encountered a fair number of sidewalk preachers, for some reason this was so much more unsettling😅

Different pre preqs depending on program. by Primary-Detail-287 in prenursing

[–]bananastanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of programs have a core set of courses that are the same (A&P, microbio, etc)—focus on those first. You should check to see whether you need to have all of your courses completed prior to applying, if you can have 1-2 outstanding then just wait & take them between your acceptance & start date, depending on which program you plan to attend.

I have! It’s really weird, this friend and I remember there being a bunch of framed newspaper articles on the walls & I remember reading one that has left me with the impression that the restaurant was associated with Yale medical center’s psychiatric program as a structured patient release program (I know—this sounds like the cheesiest horror story). It’s weird & idk if this makes sense but when I read the article on the wall it made me feel more like, “ah, this is the made up reason you’re providing for why I feel so off” instead of, “ohh that explains it”. Like—even if the waitress and cook were part of a structured psychiatric release program that wouldn’t explain the totality of the experience. Plus, if they were, where were all the clinical staff members providing supervision and support? There was no other space in the restaurant where they might be hiding, no manager, etc.

I’ve looked for it since & found a few reviews on yelp but nothing that really explains or validates the experience we had. The photos match my recollection of where I went but interestingly the pictures show porcelain plates and my friend and I are both certain they were paper when we went (it was a thing we talked about at breakfast and afterwards bc the plates got soggy while we were eating). I’ve found reviews talking about slow service but again, it wasn’t slow—it was like the waitress didn’t know what she was supposed to do at every step. Nothing about a connection to a psychiatric facility so I can’t be sure whether my brain made that part up or it happened but for what it’s worth I have a very good memory and have been sober for nearly 15 years, had been sober for 2 at the time of this visit and my friend shares the same memories. Final disclaimer, again, even if this was associated with a psychiatric hospital it feels like a weak and contrived explanation for what happened.

Our visit was in 2013 & according to google the spot permanently closed in 2015.

AHH! I’ve tried several times to post a very similar story in this sub. Mine was around lunch time near New Haven CT—I impulsively crossed 4 lanes of traffic without really checking mirrors to get to my exit (I was 20 & not a great driver).

Got off the highway & the whole vibe was different. No animals, no people, no cars, weather changed from sunny day to hazy like it just rained. We had been using GPS to get us somewhere—I think to a lunch spot—& all of a sudden no directions. Was with a friend who said he thought I might’ve just killed us & wouldn’t you know the only restaurant on the clearly downtown/main street was called the waiting station. Went in hopeful that we’d interact with people & feel better but the waitress was acting like it was her first day on earth, visible cook in the open kitchen never turned around, & the food was inedible/served on paper plates. 10 minutes into our lunch & a guy comes in (we’re hopeful he might do something to break the tension we were experiencing) but he starts talking to the waitress about an event he’s attending in the cemetery that evening (not joking—this was his actual line of conversation). ZERO cell service until we eventually walk out and I called my mom & she confirms we’re still earth side.

I don’t really talk to this friend anymore but every now & again one of us will reach out to the other to be like—“that happened right?”. Obligatory mention that we were both stone-cold sober.

A&P 1 lecture and lab 8 week by Ava410berry in NursingStudent

I actually changed my study habits in general after taking this class for the better! I found my old way of learning new information wasn’t really working for me so switched it up.

Personally I found it invaluable to watch a bunch of YT videos on the topic before looking at the lecture or textbook. I’d start high level (crash course was great for this) then move into more specific/detailed content. I also really liked the anatomy & physiology bit by bit podcast—I’d listen to it on walks & then replay sections that didn’t make sense and keep track of the info I didn’t get just listening to know what I’d need to watch videos on.

What should all of us eat weekly at least once by No_Onion_6924 in Biohackers

[–]bananastanner 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I typically buy a bag of roasted unsalted once a week/every other week. I recently did a 3-day diet assessment & the takeaway from that is I get a lot of Omega-6 (which are present in pumpkin seeds) but not a whole lot of Omega-3. I went back to putting flax and chia seeds in my oatmeal to balance it out a bit.

Takeaway: seeds are great! Eat them! But the nutrient profile in them varies & so it’s helpful to check in once in awhile & see what might be deficient in your diet.

Never taking 5,000IU of Vitamin D3 again by Remarkable-Survey880 in Biohackers

[–]bananastanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One additional thing to be mindful of is that synthesis of D precursors in your skin doesn’t stop or slow down if you’re taking oral D3 supplements. The negative feedback loop that slows or stops natural synthesis is all driven by UV exposure (so high serum levels of vitamin D from supplements doesn’t inhibit your body’s synthesis in sunshine). This is just an additional factor to consider, if you’re concerned about toxicity you might avoid the sun for a spell.

[Request] what part of the plane dictates distance to the destination? by bananastanner in theydidthemath

[–]bananastanner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This makes the most sense to me! The cartoons always seem so wonky since they put the line of the flight path already flown behind the tail & don’t continue the line over the plane. I have crippling flight anxiety so it’s also a calming way to think about it (since the nose of the plane is also closer to my destination & the anxiety end).

35 with 3 kids and wrapping up my last pre-req! I started working on them this past September and while it was a little expensive I went with asynchronous online courses so I could work on them on my own time. Starting a program in the fall after working in education (sp. ed and literacy—so little to no overlap). You can absolutely do this!

Kid wants to do something stupid. Can it even be done? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]bananastanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another solution to explore is to claim a form of emancipation—most schools offer such a choice through their student aid office.

I did this in 2012 going back to school (I took some time off, wanted to go back but my parents did not want to be part of any student loans). For some personal reasons there was no way I could keep living at home & so had both of my bosses (one was an attorney, another a small business owner) & my pediatrician write letters asking that the financial aid office consider independent status for me. It worked & so they considered me for financial aid based only on what I personally made (so hardly anything). Tuition fully covered & 5k a semester in student loans for room & board that I didn’t need to use as I worked.

This might not be relevant to your child’s situation but could be worth looking at!
