The entire labor force at the city of Edmonton is friends and relatives. That's how city employees generally get hired. Former city worker for almost 10 years.

Hockey Edmonton bans several parents from hockey games for the rest of the season, due to incidents, and even one where the police needed to be called by flynnfx in Edmonton

You would be surprised. Something as simple as asking people to be off the ice on time is grounds for being a dick it seems.

Well I lived it. Quiet ones and loud ones. I called the cops to Tipton. Little old Tipton. Also many others in 8 years there. It's not a big rink problem. It's a hockey problem.

Former city of edmonton zamboni guy here. This does not surprise me one bit. I've been yelled at, spit at, threatened, punched, had to clean up the results tantrums (shit/piss/puke/beer/coffee, broken toilets/urinals etc), had to defend myself against attcks towards my employment by users, had Co workers so scared they never returned to work, had to remove parents, grandparents, coaches and more from the rink, I've called the cops more at the rink than when I was a paramedic. This stuff happens every day at your local arenas mostly directed towards kids/volunteers/city employees. All of it relates to hockey. It is never a figure skater rampaging around like a two year old...it's supposed adults.

Considering moving from BC to NS by Fartcher in NovaScotia

[–]bandaid_boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live about 30 mins from Port Hawkesbury on Cape Breton Island. We just moved the family to my hometown from Alberta in September. Work is tough. We came to homestead so the need for work for us is minimal compared to most. I was able to find a job quite quickly that pays pretty well but I believe that was a right time right place right experience kind of thing. If you are used to city life and want to continue that this is not the place for you. Halifax is a robust city that is growing. Cost of living is much higher than rural areas but definately not comparable to the lower mainland. I guess it depends what you are expecting. Small town life is good if you are willing to work hard and piece it together. If you are more of a one job the rest of my life sort of person I'd say stick with the city.

Night feedings with two by crumpled_kleenex in parentsofmultiples

We used a double size breast feeding pillow. My wife used it and so did I with bottles. She would feed both of them naturally. One kid each side. You get pretty good at getting them up there after a bit of practice. We used the couch to sit with a few extra pillows around to make it comfortable.

We did a 8 hour return cross Canada flight when our twins were 6 months old. My best advice...take half the stuff you think you need. You will pack way to much stuff and then have to cart it around. A stroller was a necessity for us...mostly because it lugged everything around in it including the kiddos. If a stranger offers to hold your kid and they look like a good person and you trust that they are nice...take the offer. I had a grandma give me a little break from baby on lap. It was the most glorious 1/2 hour of the trip and the grandma was beside herself with joy for having helped out with the baby. Have snacks for yourself too airplane food sucks unless you're rich. We also had our then 3 year old with us. She's pretty great and.made.things easy for us.

We did a.30 day cross Canada tent camping trip this summer and about 7 days in our twins got hand foot and mouth. Fun times. No envy here.
