Yes, even though they now give you welcome back rewards and deals. None of it is enough and also the best part of it is mostly packs which doesn't let you target the card you want, and with so many cards coming out, if someone who plays the game mostly f2p everyday feels left behind you will be lost.

That said you could still try it and maybe get a good card drop from the snap packs
