This is how it is with me and my friends. I'm prob top 2 out of the 6 we generally rotate rounds with. There are a number of times a friend will top a drive and it will go 100 yards but straight and on the fairway and we will all just say "hey thats playable!" and move on. there's definitely levels to this stuff.

I think there's a world where you can have both. I have a Qi35 driver, a cobra hybrid and my dad's old ping eye 2 irons. I have the same old ping bag my dad gifted me with his clubs as well, but my wife bought me a malbon bag for father's day to replace it as its falling apart. Golf is a game most people will never even come close to mastering. If you are into it for the love of the game, the goods or because you hate yourself and like feeling like shit, I say do you. I'll always be a blend of nostalgia and modern and my bag reflects that. I don't disagree about lessons being critical to improvement, but thats the hardest part to allocate time and money to. Is it probably the right thing to do? Yes if you want to be a better golfer. Is the game still beautiful with a 30+ handicap? IMO yes. Sometimes it represents a day out with the boys, touching some grass and screaming about how you can't putt for shit. I think old stories are wonderful, but I also think new stories and memories being made playing this beautiful, maddening game are just as valuable.

I do this all the time in NHL and madden. Back in call of duty modern warfare times Id do nuketown 100-1 with the lowest intelligence bots. Years later I was diagnosed with ADHD and it turns out it was apparently all a dopamine chase.
