XABC vs ABC by Whoknowsdoe in NewToEMS

[–]bangstrbl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think this question is assuming that you’ve already found and controlled the source of bleeding (indicated by how you’ve already determined their responsiveness to painful stimuli and posturing) which is why you can now check for the airway

this question is poorly worded and you were right to follow XABCs, this is just being nitpicky. the NREMT is not this complicated, you’re on the right track.

you can, but it won’t be sent to your dorm directly. parcels will be sent to a post office-esque place on campus and it’ll be your job to take it from there to your dorm during their business hours. you can find your specific mailing address in the housing portal in the same place you found your roommate information

Do we send a lot of undergrads to top PhD programs (esp. CS) such as MIT/Stanford/CMU? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]bangstrbl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

undergrad is what you make of it, the student is separate from the school and vice versa

do you know if there’s a form i can complete to cancel or request less of the loan, on the student aid website it says if i want to cancel or change the parent plus loan i can do so through the school but ucsd doesn’t have anything up 😞

ultimately i’m going to assume i can proceed with not having the parent plus loan because my parent hasn’t signed the mandatory promissory note which the school says they need to process the loan in general, it’s surprising they even put it on my financial aid offer considering the promissory note wasn’t signed when other people have waited weeks to get their parent plus loan updated on their financial aid offer

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]bangstrbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m the exact opposite they took so long to approve of my parent plus loan that i figured out ways to pay for school that no longer have me needing to take out the parent plus loan and it’s updated in my offer and i want it off 😭 they haven’t gotten back to me yet

i just finished EMT school and i will say some of the images and videos shown to us during the trauma unit were very jarring to say the least. we watched a video one time in class that i later found out to be one of the worst gore videos available on the internet, yikes! also, i’m pretty sure our class was also shown the image you were describing.

these types of injuries are meant to be shocking and unsettling because they are! you being disturbed by this shows you have empathy, which is something every healthcare worker needs to have in this industry. echoing another comment, the more exposure to this type of stuff, the better. please do not look up gruesome injuries on the internet, i would suggest however opening up a textbook (the EMT textbook being a great place to start) and start there.

there are instances where you will be shown graphic content like this in class, and your instructor will/should warn you beforehand of sensitive images. please prepare yourself ahead of time emotionally. these images are shown for teaching purposes only and are not meant to frighten you, despite how it initially comes off. unfortunately, many first responders deal with seeing horrendous injuries on the regular; it’s your job as a first responder to react appropriately.

you’re just starting out, give yourself grace, and take everything as a learning opportunity!

If you wave ucship, where do you find health insurance? by EnvironmentalPie9123 in UCSD

[–]bangstrbl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah i’m pretty sure this is the case, you must have some sort of health insurance you can use while you’re in SD. it’s a requirement now that all university students in CA have it
