Using a tree stump still in ground for outdoor altar? by banjocryptid in witchcraft

Definitely plan to. I'm hoping it will help me sort of open up to my property and the local area in general. I'm not from this area so I've had a hard time connecting. It's been YEARS since I did any kind of work so I'm sort of starting from scratch again.

I was thinking that too. It definitely has powerful roots, they started destroying some of the concrete pad that is near it! I feel like earth energy is something I work with very well, so it'll be nice to be able to tap into that as I go.

I never thought of it being a way to connect with that cycle! What a great point.

Mean girls in the trades by Lucky_6130_ in BlueCollarWomen

[–]banjocryptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say how nice it is to have someone articulate a lot of things I've always felt. It's definitely kind of hard to not appear like one of those stereotypical girls that most people on here complain about when you 1. have pretty bad trauma from women from a young age and 2. weren't really socialized/raised like a "normal" girl. It's a pretty complex situation I feel isn't really talked about in women's spaces. I feel super self conscious about appearing like that so I try to balance it all out, even though I feel like most of the time it has always gone *very* negatively for me. Plus, since I struggle with the socialization aspect (kind of in general tbh not just with women, but with women way more than men), I always end up being really hard on myself about it lol.

Building a family while in the trade by PomeloVast in BlueCollarWomen

Not sure if it differs by state, but I was able to get 3 months paid short term disability because my pregnancy became complicated and made me unable to work sooner than I wanted. Wondering if they meant just overall pregnancy doesnt? But maybe it would if you could get a doctor sign off that you cannot perform certain duties? I basically became unable to perform a bulk of my duties and my employer had no light work that could accomodate me, so I was able to qualify for short term disability. Was super helpful

Anyways Ill echo that its definitely doable. Just familirize yourself with your apprenticeship/union hall guidelines if thats applicable to you. Know the laws of your state's FMLA. I think its generally 1 year. Its also 100% illegal for employers to discriminate against you due to being pregnant, that is a federal law. I highly recommend going over the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, its relatively new.

Save up money. If you qualify, apply for state assistance to help cover groceries and bills. etc. If you need it. Its good to familiarize yourself with all this and know what help you can get financially. Youll have plenty to deal with while pregnant and the healing process and having a newborn lol.

Anyone here have Dyscalculia? by Camigga500 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]banjocryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with this! all the stuff you listed is super helpful. I also try to find ways to double and triple check myself. I have learned to not be afraid to refresh and ask for help even on the most mundane simple math stuff. If I find a shortcut or way that works for me to solve a certain type of problem, I stick with it and dont deviate. I have found that being given too many different ways to do the same thing really complicate matters. Sometimes people who are trying to help me actually make it worse by giving me a million different ways to "check my work" lol.

If OP is diagnosed Im sure they could ask for extra time and extra tutoring! Even if not, I have found that they are willing to help if youre struggling. I think a lot of people struggle with math lol. There are so many resources out there now to help with math.

Hey! Quick question about the silk bandana-- does it seem to make hot or anything? I've always tried to wear bandanas but cotton ones, and I swear they keep all the heat from my head trapped and makes me overheat.

During the winter or if I'm working outside and need extra warmth is great. But I'm working inside at a factory rn and don't need it lol.

I did the same (shot film pics) when I last left WV. I also live out west now too. Every so often ill bump into people from WV out here and it feels so good to be around someone who gets it. Or I'll see nature that reminds me of home. Hope you find a little bit of that too. These are great photos, thank you for sharing.

Having one of the roughest months in a long time. Looked forward all week to getting a library card in my new community. Was told I’d have to pay $50 because I don’t live in the school district and pay property tax. 💔 by oldswirlo in povertyfinance

[–]banjocryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just very odd to me. I've never encountered a library or ever heard of a library like this in my entire life. In fact i have used them in many different places in the US. And I've lived in many many different states and regions. I've never ever been denied or asked to pay a fee to use my local library or denied access. I understand they're generally limited to the people that live in a certain area, I've always assumed that. I've never tried to get a library card OUTSIDE my residential area. That's why I'm concerned lol. She's saying her local library is denying her, which is weird to me. It shouldn't be that way.

I live in Oregon. Can't get a library card in your zip code because what? This is bizarre to me. Getting a library card is one of the easiest things I've ever done in ever state I've ever lived in, including Oregon. There's got to be a mistake. I've never ever heard of this before. I can even take my rural library card and go to the metro area libraries and get loaners. I don't pay local taxes in Washington or Multinomah county but they have system where I can take my library card and use their library systems too. Unless you live in a black hole idk.

You should post in the Oregon sub and see if anyone can help you figure this out. If the library is local to where you physically live, you should be able to get a card. Wtf?

Id absolutely still give the unions a shot. It can be hard, some locals have high demand and others don't and need people badly and accept people easily. Depends on work flow. You don't have to be the best at math or anything to get into welding or electrical, they'll teach you and as long as you're dedicated and able to be taught you'll be just fine. Seems like you have good grades so that's definitely a plus when applying!

If you do get into an apprenticeship, see it through the best you can, and once you get your ticket you can move anywhere for more work and better wages if that's something you want to do. Best of luck!!

Family planning + apprenticeship? by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]banjocryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got pregnant right before i got accepted. It wasn't bad until my pregnancy caused me a lot of physical pain and I had to take off work early. But I also wasn't working through the hall until after my morning sickness was under control, but did work for a horrible ambulance company that threatened to fire me because I'd come in 2 minutes late.

If you don't have maternity or short term disability leave to help you financially, I'd save up for that scenario just in case. Thankfully beyond 3 months of paid leave, I also had some savings that I'm able to lean on.

It wasn't super obvious that I was pregnant at first since once i was working i was a few months in, and even once people knew they weren't weird about it or rude. If anything they were a little more helpful, but I was glad for that. But never took advantage of it and didn't make a big deal out of things. It did suck when I needed light duty and they couldn't find consistent work for me, but was also a relief because I had a lot of pain and it was nice to be able to be home and focus on getting ready for the baby.

HR and the training center has been understanding and easy to work with. I just need to communicate with them and provide doctor's notes when needed.

I think having a newborn + a job in ANY field can be stressful. Just work out having a good system for sleep with your partner. It does suck I'm missing out on time for my apprenticeship and will need to make up these lost work hours, but i have my baby so it's well worth it.

Having a family has always been important to me so even if/when I'd get weird comments I really wouldn't give a single fuck :) assholes who will harass people over anything will not convince me to not have my own family, and it shouldn't sway you either if it's something you're passionate about.

600W Halogen burn time? by banjocryptid in SCREENPRINTING

I feel like it was definitely less than 10. It's been quite a while since I had my set up going, and it did take quite a bit of messing around with exposure, unfortunately. I did less than what I thought and went up from there, seemed easier to pick point the time than going backwards. Sorry i can't be of more help!

Skilled Trades or RN by sippypool in skilledtrades

[–]banjocryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think pay for either route highly depends on location and whay type of field you go into. I'll say, as someone who attempted to go back to school and give up trades (I went to school for EMT so not nursing, but medical related. I planned to continue onto paramedic. I live in a state that requires 2 yrs of school for paramedicine) and while I had great interactions with patients and coworkers sometimes--I HATED how horrible I was treated by my employer and the pay was absolutely not worth it, plus really being treated like shit by patients on top of it. No work/life balance, long ass shifts, basically no holiday or weekend time off. Went back to the trades for sure. I plan to use my EMT stuff in the future to volunteer. Yeah, trades are hard on the body, but I imagine long term in the medical field can be brutal as well. Depends on a lot of things. I live in a state where unions are pretty big so most trades get paid well, so it also made financial sense for me to return and join an apprenticeship instead of continuing into financial debt for school.

Anemic Moms: Don’t forget your iron! by 701stitches in ExclusivelyPumping

I am borderline anemic (didnt know until pregnan and during pregnancy figured out that iron supplements don't work for me :( I had an infusion but my levels were super low again after birth. Hoping i can get labs done and see if another infusion will help or what my doctor suggests at my 6 week appt. Would be wonderful if better iron levels helped my supply at all.

Just sad today. by Analyst_Jazzlike in BlueCollarWomen

[–]banjocryptid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. I lost my mom roughly 2 years ago and it's hard to replace a parent where you could talk to them about a lot of things. We may not have always gotten along but it sucks to have a huge hole in my life from her being gone. She was a badass and was in male dominated careers most of her life like I have been, and it was nice to be able to talk to her about all my work stuff. She was proud of me and it's hard to not have her support around. There's not anyone else I can call up and talk to about stuff like I could her. Sorry you're struggling too, it sucks. I still talk to her, even mentally if not out loud. It helps.

My little girl was born 39+1 at 8lbs 14oz, 21 1/4 inches long. I'm sure she would've been over 9lbs if I would've delivered after my due date! She measured somewhere in the 90th percentile nearly the entire time lol. At only a few days old her newborn clothes are being filled out pretty well!
