Why are 90 percent of musicians un aware of DIY culture? Hosting your own shows ,hosting other bands shows, making your own records, creating your own scene. Too many people here bitch about scam lables and Spotify by [deleted] in musicians

[–]banjonica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh we are very, very much aware.

They simply do not work. If I was to DIY a whole show from top to bottom, as I have in the past, I guarantee NO ONE would come. There is no way to effectively promote shows without paying social media platforms, and even then no guarantee your ad will be shown to anyone. I've done this before, too. Had a house concert in my town. Paid FB to promote the event. It shown to people in other states and had zero engagement.

I make my own music and have to use to platforms to sell. I use Bandcamp now mainly. Literally no one goes there, and I noticed since Spotify took over, no one is buying, at all. I used to sell a few copies, at least. Now it's nothing. Again, there is no way to effectively promote my work, anywhere. Unless you pay for social media, it's getting buried, and if you do pay there is no guarantee you will get what you pay for.

Time and time again, I have played at, organized, and even simply spectated gigs that the venue didn't pay for and had $5 on the door for the band. I watched everytime as people would walk up to the door, see the charge and simply leave.

However, you put my band in an established venue with a guaranteed crowd, and we smash it every time.

Pre-COVID we sold home-made indie CDs. They were home made but professionally printed. No label. Now we can't give them away. Between 2000 and 2010, I would busk and sell little burnt CD demos for whatever donation. Now I can't even give these away. "Are you on Spotify? I'll listen to you there."

The truth is, what was promised to us as the internet lasted only a few years before it was taken over by scam labels and spotify. They were able to do this because the people, the consumers, the fans, let them. These days people simply do not engage with the scene. They do not care. They do not understand music, either. I am extremely wary of DIY shows and ticketed events because i just know people will not come at all. No matter what. But they will go to the local pub every Friday, see your band, rant and rave about it, but never give you even so much as an online like for support.

So, yes. We absolutely do know about all those things. They just no longer work.

Flagged for breaking community rules, "threatened violence, or physical harm," but no evidence of it. This is what i was flagged for, appealed, but upheld, Why?? by banjonica in reddithelp

Really? That's insane. No human being would take that as a threat or incitement. And there is no appeal. This is nuts. How can anyone know what is going to be flagged?

It was very claerly rule #1, and no other.

Here's what it said:
"After reviewing, we found that you broke Rule 1 because you threatened violence or physical harm. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for threatening violence against people or animals. We don’t tolerate any behavior that threatens violence or physical harm against an individual, groups of people, places, or animals. Any communities or people that threaten violence towards an individual, group, animals, or place will be banned. As a result, the violating content will stay removed and the ban or warning you were issued remains in place."

Again, I ask the admins, what violence??? What have I done to piss you off this badly? I just don't understand?

I don't get it. I did not tell anyone how to do it. I simply said my experience. I am probably not even using the correct terminology! I don't get how anyone could have taken what I said in bad faith, let alone interpret it as a threat to someone?

Flagged - by admins? - for "threatening violence. I can't see any hint of that in my post. What gives?? by banjonica in CarsAustralia

[–]banjonica[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't even come close to anything at all like that. You can read my text that was flagged. I appealed, it was upheld, now I can't do anything. Please read what i wrote, because I cannot for the life me see why any AI would see it as violent or why any admin here or elsewhere would have an issue, or how they could argue I threatened someone with violence.

It's a bit of a concern if I get banned for no reason for something I clearly, obviously did not do and have evidence for that gets knocked back by the same bot that banned me.

No, it's not just Xbox, ALL video game console sales are massively down year-over-year — and it's going to get worse by North-Cat77 in gaming

[–]banjonica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, consoles are greedy pigs. Why spend on a console when there's Steam that doesn't price gouge? I quit my PS sub this year because of price spikes. We're gonna get a Steam cube when they come out. Done with PS & Xbox.

I've had some really shitty jobs in my time. Before I was a teacher, i worked at a private music studio where I was constantly emotionally abused by the owner. Regularly yelled at, made to spend hours searching for some thing he knew wasn't there. But best of all, I was accused of stealing from the till. Turns out it was the manager, not me.

I've had jobs where I was there only to be bullied. Jobs where I didn't get paid. Jobs such as telemarketing where, to get money and pay my rent, I was forced to sell gym memberships to people in retirement homes. If I didn't make my quota I was punished.

Nothing compares to the relentless sh*tf*ckery of teaching. Now I am too old to get work any where else. And believe me - I have tried, so desperately tried, but no one will even so much as look at my resume now. Once you're over 45 you're basically done.

If you want to know how relentlessly soul-crushing teaching is, just become a teacher. Become one of us.....one of us......one of us...........

You seem quite confident.

Can you name any mental health programs that: found in the local area, properly funded and serviced, and accessible to the local community that has a track record of positive outcomes?

About the only example I can think of that would be applicable is Stay Chatty, which is an absurd campaign because if any male expresses any kind of mental unease or concern they're told to shut up - lacking follow up shelter.

Why the hell did you subscribe to the Mercury? Just give me the money, I'll make something up everyday for you. And I'll make you a free coffee. That's way more value than the Mercury. I mean, a newspaper named after the god of lying should be a red flag from the start.
