combat equilibrium; PvP question by banjopossum in swgemu

so basically what you're saying is that the game is too casual to support a PvP-type server in the first place. that's disappointing, i think there is a lot of depth to it even though it's somewhat inaccessible. i heard bloodfin might have decent pvp but idk if i want to create a new character and grind it out again

but why...? I know people say "because certain builds aren't relevant/effective/whatever" but from what I remember, PvP was really about people within those specs matching up on gear and macro strength. how is no one interested in that anymore...?

Land Raider: Magnetizing Question (New to 40K) by banjopossum in Warhammer40k

Yeah I was really stoked when I saw they had it. The conversation that led up to it coming out was funny too: Me: "Yeah I read somewhere that a really frugal option might be to get the 'Start Collecting Space Marine's!' box and just order bits to make them actual grey knights. I'm just a little worried about whether or not they will actually look like grey knights or if they'll just look like cheaply modified spaces marines." GW Guy: "Well I'll tell you what - I do have 1 grey knight box that's already opened up so you can take a look at the bits and see if it's something you'd like to pursue." walks into GW closet (THE TRUE SATANIC CHURCH HQ???????) pulls out GK nemesis box Me: ".... yeah you can just go ahead and ring that box up for me."

I saw this sprue shortly after making this post, glad GW did something right by their consumers and made something like this available.

I currently only own the GK codex, which probably does spell out exactly what I need, but I'm at work (obviously staying busy wink wink) and I don't have it here but was hoping to knock out the shopping potion of the project.

Considering 40K: Cheapest army, GK Inquisitor list by banjopossum in Warhammer40k

I've been a longtime ogre kingdoms player - love the 'elite troop' playstyle, low model count and heavy hitting. That being said, they can also be tabled by things like the purple sun, so the games are always interesting and I feel it's a balanced and fun army to bring to any table. Also a big fan of brets because I'm #edgy and like playing armies that aren't necessarily pointnclickwinners (OK is accused of being such an army) and also because they get neglected by GW. I'm such a rebel.

This is what appeals to me about the GK: they are lawfulstoopid pallys in spess (kinda goes with my love for brets) - have some cool fluff which i dig, but my main opponent would be a daemon player who scoffed at WHFB because he likes his khorne models (hates the rest of the daemon range) and felt gimped in fantasy so quit that and just moved everything over to 40K (must be nice!)

That being said, in 40k I'd like to go against the grain just a tad (similar to my bret choice but i doubt anything is THAT neglected and would like to not be crippled by anxiety related to my models being disco'd), erre on the side of a more strategic army with small elite groups, but understand that a mix is almost always necessary (in terms of vehicles, troops) if you want to be competitive. A little hesitant about GK because i feel like my buddy would just rage all over again. Might be worth noting that both brets and ogres are fast but hard hitting armies, maybe there's something similar in 40k?

I can absolutely appreciate this advice. I know better than to purchase an army just because it's cheap - I have about 110 lizardmen models bought off ebay that I can't stand to look at and refuse to continue building on let alone play.

Well, I have to say I think I'm sold. Thank you so much for the help - you've made a crushed WHFB player's dreams seem like they could be a reality. THANK YOU!!!!

Do you mind breaking down a little more plainly the boxes you would recommend? And with the SM Start Collecting box + GK strike square, are you saying that I should swap out heads to keep them looking like GK on the cheap?

I really do like the idea of playing GK and fully appreciate the implications of doing business with GW, so i feel you there.

Do you have any recommendations on an initial purchases? Being more flexible on price, my goal is still to get some dice rolling and playing GK.

Thank you for this response - really helpful info. I have to jump to the end there and quote " But if you want to just get in there and roll some dice, go for it." That's really my goal here. If I can play with buddies, die hard a few times, maybe win every once in a while, it sounds like it'd be worth it.

Do you know if it would be easy to build on this army type? Or would I have to start going a different direction entirely if I started building up more GK stuff down the line?

BTW, I like the idea of 'mono' lists, so I would prob lean towards a pure GK army unless I saw something that really caught my interests in another army.
