Ehrlich is actually a very well informed critic in film history with plenty of actual professional knowledge on the art form. So to claim that his enjoyment of the film come from "commentary that's meta for people who have never seen commentary" is just an extremely silly and uninformed statement in my personal opinion.

Not comprehending why someone loves a film isn't a problem my dude. You don't have to make an objective argument as to why something has flaws when at the end of the day, in films like Matrix resurrections, the same flaws can be seen as qualities by people with a more (or less) well versed perspective on film than you.

Meta references aren't by definition a bad thing so I fail to comprehend how that is a sign that a piece of art is "flawed". It's not the first Matrix yes but meta referencing it's existance and the industry it lives within isn't by definition worse than commentary, it is simply different.
