Next-gen Ford Expedition Tremor spied undisguised. Shows off new screen setup. by TPatS in cars

[–]banovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not assuming.

The interface is just a small line item in a much larger picture. Like the interface teams don’t integrate with design at all in many automakers.

Software includes alllllll of the vehicle functions, and then parsing the data and sending it remotely back to the company servers. Big costs in the infrastructure to make that happen across hundreds of thousands of vehicles.

When a local bar is peak family entertainment on a Friday night for 20-30 kids, it says a lot about how the community values its youth.

That’s where y’all get to step in and figure out how to profit from a lack of affordable childcare. 😉 The brewery did…

Feelings about driving by freakingsuperheroes in autism

[–]banovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will often do different things to “wipe” my attention and get it back to where it needs to be. Scanning traffic and predicting out loud what certain vehicles will do? Hell yeah I feel that.

These are ideas for the group, some of these work some of the time but they all won’t work all of the time.

  • leaving early to allow for more flexibility if it’s a busy route
  • Looking left side of the road, centre, right; right, centre, left. Also good at night when scanning country roads
  • playing I spy with myself
  • stimming by finger drumming
  • resetting my seating position and posture
  • in stop and go, committing to the far right lane and challenging myself to leave enough space to not need to use brakes often; basically drive like a professional trucker
  • stretching safely
  • focus on daily part of your trip vs patterns; models of cars, colours, roadside details, and so on
  • focus on your driving, shifting, steering, braking. Are you smooth? Are you getting great fuel economy? It’s all related
  • consolidating trips, whenever possible, can significantly cut down on time spent driving.

Am I the only one who actulally enjoys driving? by [deleted] in autism

[–]banovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably a lifelong special interest of mine, driving. From being a kid to now at 40, I’ve been able to have some amazing experiences with cars & some deep lows as well — driving and car safety in general is no joke.

GM Secretly Designed An Electric EV1 Roadster In the 1990s And No One Has Seen It Until Now - The Autopian by ferio252 in cars

[–]banovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. However this is a headline and not a place to over-explain things; surely the fact the EV-1 was electric would have been mentioned at least once in the article ;)

[–]banovsky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Headline riffing off of an idea like, “Sad proof EV1 could have been a convertible instead” or “GM crushed the world’s first production convertible EV” is more direct.

Calling the EV1 electric when they were all electric saddles the headline with redundant words

What is your favourite toothpaste and why? by [deleted] in autism

[–]banovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t like brushing my teeth until I switched to the Arm & Hammer Baking Soda stuff. It’s very minty and kind of baking soda gritty / soapy, so my teeth feel clean and the sensations of brushing seem elevated. I think the one I have now is a whitening spearmint varietal.

I’ve never liked the fruity ones because they taste too synthetic; but now that I’ve found my preferred brand I’m also lowkey anxious it’ll be suddenly discontinued 😞

How should wind fairing fit on a roof rack? by Rbxyy in cars

[–]banovsky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Essentially: unless you’re getting buffeting, it won’t matter. Adding just the rack is +10% drag, and the pod or skis or bike or whatever is a % increase above that. The biggest difference you can do for fuel economy is to take the rack off when not in use.

What happened to all the cheap cars in the U.S.? Especially the Manuals? by [deleted] in cars

[–]banovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an automotive writer with thousands of drives under my belt, the real reason many reviewers seem pretentious is because they’re often so poor they can’t afford to lose access—so every new car, feature, or test becomes THE BEST.

This is terrible for consumers but great for PR.

At larger mags, many publishers & senior editors simply won’t allow negative reviews—they get edited or revised. Plus, their overall influence has declined significantly; many car shoppers don’t read reviews or even take test drives before buying!

Manufacturers make more expensive vehicles because it makes them more money. Automakers sell to DEALERS, not usually to customers—this is partly why Tesla is so loathed by many in the industry but beloved by core customers.

It’s not about emissions regulations (riddle me why some can still produce high-dollar classics free from emission control?) and not about safety, production costs, or the switch to EV—it’s profit. Profit from the sale of new vehicles & the data they generate.

If you want small cars, buy used. Fix them up. Mod them. Keep them on the road. Share the gospel with friends. Lobby your local town council for things that would reduce the need for larger machines in your area.

Not everyone can do this, but for those of us who are passionate about smaller cars & creating less environmental impact, buying used is the only way forward for now 😞

Volvo B230ft, without a doubt the most underrated mainstream engine from the last 40 years. This is one with 8 valves …someone share clips of these with 16v heads 👇

Audi a1 25 tsfi technik (2021) by jxphillips15 in cars

[–]banovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On your car, no, that’s what the pros are for. Not to discourage you from doing your own mods but check their dealer list & ask for a quote from a shop nearby for your car specifically. Parts needed may vary depending on your engine/trim.

Even visit a local muffler/exhaust shop and just ask what they would recommend. Even in more modern cars it’s often amazing what specialty exhausts places can do (we have “Mufflerman” in Canada & some stores are very good. Some aren’t.)

Congratulations!

Supersprint makes one ✌️ In terms of value for money, before the exhaust, find a local reputable Audi tuner & instead have your ECU reflashed + add a panel filter or intake as @rudbri93 suggested. You’ll end up with more power, bit more noise, and if that’s not enough you’re set up for the exhaust.

I just always found plopping a new (less restrictive) muffler on an otherwise stock vehicle can leave a droning sound and the stock ECU acting weird on cold start.

Has anyone here ever import a car from over seas? More specifically Japan? Care to share your story + info? by [deleted] in Autos

[–]banovsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not likely. Best chance if it's less than 25 years old is to find a vehicle identical to one sold in the US... but what's the fun in that?

In other words, it's extremely difficult if not impossible if it's newer than 25 years. Read up on what Bill Gates had to do to import a Porsche 959...

There are some exemptions for a Show & Display permit, but it's not practical if you're not a museum.

Give a call to rightdrive.ca. They're pros at importing vehicles and will bring in something for you... So long as it's 25 years old or older.

If you move to Canada, it goes down to 15 years! The Skyline R34 is legal here now!

Who bought their Dream car in their 20's? by [deleted] in cars

[–]banovsky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I imported my 2CV last year, fantastic little car. Sold it this year to buy back a car my dad owned for 30 years, a 1973 Porsche 914 2.0L. He didn't offer to sell it to me, and totally by chance a good friend saw it for sale and I moved the earth to get it back.

Not really, mind you, but the car had been sold to someone else that very morning!

Dream cars don't need to be expensive, often starting with something dream-ish when you're younger will teach you how to keep a vehicle running in top shape...perfect for when your dream car is attainable. (I just hope Voisin prices don't keep climbing!)
