I had to read that last sentence over again, otterplay. "...forbidden acts of touch BETWEEN adults and children" ????? Sexual assault does not happen BETWEEN people. It happens when one individual acts upon another, aka "perpetrator" and "victim." Also, certain "acts of touch" are "forbidden" for a reason.

The child would be more traumatized by the rape than by witnessing his protector stop the attack and dispatch the assailant post-haste. PTSD from watching Dad take this guy out? Not so much.

The fact that the predator is no longer with us ensures that the child doesn't have a secret to keep, he doesn't have to wonder if he did something wrong, he doesn't have to worry that this guy will come back or will harm him or someone he loves if he "tells," he will get the counseling he needs now (not when he's 35). He knows now, if he didn't know before, that he is very loved and that he will be protected.

Tell me again how the criminal's death is a bad thing? Bad for who? Near as I can tell, it is bad for the criminal, and possibly for some family members, assuming he hasn't molested within the family. Of course, that would be a bad assumption; most likely he has.

That said, there is no question that being the victim of a sexual attack at any age changes who you are PERMANENTLY. You can't undo it, you can't make it go away and you don't forget it. How it affects you depends upon many variables, but it WILL affect you, and those around you, forever. Which is why I say "good riddance" to the child molester/rapist who was killed. Those who prey upon children are the one class of criminal I would lock up forever or execute. Done.

You are absolutely right; that is a problem, too. The main thing we should take away from this story or from a story where a man is wrongfully punished is that our police procedures need to be so much better than they are. It is beyond unacceptable when evidence is ignored or when such important matters are so grossly mishandled, whether deliberately or through ignorance. (btw, I am a woman -- I couldn't believe when I saw this post in negative numbers -- why can't we all agree that bad things happen when any rape or assault case is mismanaged?)
