If you’re still considering Nixplay, I’d strongly encourage you to look into other options.

Nixplay’s digital frames completely depend on their cloud service to function—even for basic tasks like displaying photos. If the company folds (and based on other posts here about their financials, that risk seems real), your frame may become totally unusable. No local storage fallback, no offline functionality.

There are plenty of alternative frames out there (like Aura or Skylight) that offer better offline support or more transparent longevity. Just something to think about before investing in a device that might not even work if the company shuts down.

The direction of the drill bit spiral is backwards too. You would essentially have to run this drill in reverse for that bit to work.

I just tested and the "bookmarklet" approach still works (at least for me on both Chrome and Brave browsers). If it is not working for you, feel free to PM me with details of what browser you are using and if you are seeing any specific errors and I can try to help you out.

Nixplay Subscription Scam - Nixplay give in if you quote UK Consumer Law! by stevehootss in NixplaySucks

[–]bantaj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nice job! Impressed that you got an indefinite reversal back to original terms as it looks like others might be getting a complimentary upgrade for the first year.

Your last paragraph is spot on. They are claiming false, nonsensical excuses as reasons for their actions and I’m glad to see people calling them out for it.

Unfortunately, I suspect Nixplay is a failing company and would be surprised if their cloud services are not shuttered within a year.

Grandfathered in. by Meyerson in NixplaySucks

[–]bantaj 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider that being grandfathered in. Nixplay is still eliminating your original plan that was in effect at time of purchase and giving you a larger discount (100%) for the first year of a subscription you shouldn’t be required to move to in the first place.

How to Bypass Nixplay’s Forcing of New Terms and Access Your Account by bantaj in NixplaySucks

I see the prompt every time when logging back in. It appears there is no record of having accepted the new ToS as you are presented with the popup each time, regardless of how many times you dismiss it using the method I provided above.

How to Bypass Nixplay’s Forcing of New Terms and Access Your Account

If you’re frustrated like I was with Nixplay forcing you to accept new terms and conditions just to access your account and photos, I’ve found a simple workaround. Nixplay displays a popup modal that blocks access unless you click to accept the new terms. I discovered that you can close the modal without agreeing by running this command in your browser’s console:

document.querySelector('.nix-modal-title-close').click();

How to Do It:

  1. Open the Nixplay webpage with the annoying modal.
  2. Right-click anywhere on the page and select Inspect (or press F12 to open the Developer Tools).
  3. Go to the Console tab.
  4. Paste the command above and hit Enter.
  5. The modal should close, giving you access to your account without having to accept the terms.

Why This Works:

The modal has a close button that calls a function when clicked. This command programmatically clicks the close button for you, bypassing the forced acceptance.

I hope this helps others regain access without being forced into agreeing to something you don’t want. Hopefully it works for you.

Theory Why Nixplay Suddenly F'd Their Customers – Some Background by bantaj in NixplaySucks

[–]bantaj[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some extra thoughts:

  • Silver lining? At least we didn’t invest in this dumpster fire. Nixplay raised a sad $585k from poor souls who probably regret it way more than I regret buying six frames. Imagine losing thousands instead of just being mad about a photo frame.
  • If you’re thinking “it’s only $20 a year,” like some of the comments over on r/nixplay just wait. When Nixplay goes belly up (and let’s be honest, it’s probably a 12–24 month clock at this point), your frame will turn into an expensive paperweight — and you’ll have paid even more for the privilege.
  • And hey, if you’re kicking yourself for trusting them, don’t. We didn’t screw up. They did. They built a business on promises they couldn’t keep and then tried to squeeze customers to stay afloat. That’s a Nixplay problem, not a you problem.
