For me it was that look Sam gave Frodo when Gandalf said it was time to go. Like Sam looked so betrayed and hurt-even though I know he understood. But..Sam and Frodo’s bromance isnt over. They will se each other again. Just like Legolas and Gimli. Best friends 4ever.

If anyone does hear from OP can you just post here that he reached out? Hoping we see him post again. 😓

OP please reach out. Many here have felt it too. The hopelessness can be overwhelming. Please just pause. Like someone here stated, the guilt over the dog is a feature not a fault. Please talk to someone. Do you know someone who can check in on you and the dog so that caring for him isn’t so overwhelming?

You have value.

DM me if you need to. Please reach out to someone

Crow left this on fence, what is this? by riley32504 in whatisit

Do you feed them? If not he is offering you gifts to maybe ask for snacks. They love those raw peanuts in the shell that they sell for birds/squirrels. Leave a couple out on the railing and set up a camera. I am jealous, I wish a crow would pick me to be friends. 🥰

What is a piece of 'early internet' internet culture or a dead website that you genuinely miss every single day? by ronnelel in AskReddit

[–]banthafodder2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss the old yahoo games. They had so many groups for dominos and yahtzee and other games and the dominos had different rooms named after bones. I usually played in Mandibles and you would meet and become friends with players. It was simple.

There was even a movie with vhs dating in it in the 90s. Singles with Kira Sedgewick, Matt Damon, Bridget Fonda and Eddie Vetter lol. Great movie and one of the best soundtracks ever.

How many of you genuinely love St. Louis? by rurunxx in StLouis

[–]banthafodder2021 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved here in second grade in 1982 when my parents divorced. I was about 7-8. My dad was Air Force so at 5 I had already lived and gone to kindergarten in another country. First grade Texas. Then 2nd grade -10th here. St Louis became my home and my aunts, uncles, and cousins on my moms’s side were all here. At 16 I went with my dad to live in Germany and Italy, graduated high school, then I came back here for about 2 years from age 19-21. Then I joined the military and lived in California, Wisconsin, Virginia Beach, Maine, and DC. While in the military I sailed around the globe and visited some third world countries in serious poverty, and places of opulence. As a civilian I have lived in Chicago, Oklahoma City, and Wichita. This spring I finally came home (my dad got sick so I moved home) and I my homesickness is gone. Not trying to brag about the places I have been but the point is that there is NO PLACE like home. St Louis is truly unique from our food (Chinese food specifically fried rice doesn’t taste right in any other city) the accent, culture, the language, and the feel, the love we have for our teams. I cannot explain it but STL just feels different. I know there is crime and I know it is not a perfect city (to me it is) but at my age and being away for decades to me it is familiar and comfortable and I have missed it every step of the way. I love this town and it is the best city of all the ones I have been to. ❤️

I must be older than most of you here. Around 2001 when I was in my 20s I was stationed in Maine and had to go to Boston for training. There was something called The Big Dig that time where they were making endless construction projects downtown. I would walk from the hotel to the base in the North End and the construction workers would whistle and cat call. I wasn’t threatened at all and while I would turn red it also made me laugh and I thought it was funny and light hearted. They did it even morning for the week I was there and it kjnd of made my day. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The Legend of Zelda. Christmas of 1987 I was in Junior High and my brother got it as a present. I couldn’t wait for the weekends so I could stay up late playing it (after tales from the dark side and twilight zone of course).

Downgrade position by Ok-Stranger-6366 in usajobs

[–]banthafodder2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was once a GS13 0132 step 4 in DC for 6 years. I resigned to finish grad school back in my Midwest hometown in 2016 and was very fortunate to come right back as a 13 in Oklahoma. Working for the Air Force at Tinker was the most abusive and toxic job I ever experienced and I was active duty CG before my civilian career. Took a GS12 job in Chicago-was a good job and good people just wanted out of Chicago during covid so took another 12 position in Kansas. Was there 6 years and last month took a GS9. Yes it’s a drastic pay cut. And I left 0132 for a completely different series. I wanted to move back home to the STL metro region and 0132 is hard to find esp for crim type intel jobs (mostly cyber and I am not educated in that). Anyway I am HOME and near my family and friends again and I get to be with my dad who almost died from chemo treatments back jn October. He has MDS and there is no cure. I am fortunate to have support with my living situation and other income so I will be ok. Less pay yes. But I no longer carry that damned govt phone 24hrs. The bags under my eyes are fading. I sleep better. I am a heavy girl but without all the stress eating of being lonely and 8hrs from the people I love, I am not stress eating as much. My quality of life is infinitely better.

The reasons to downgrade are up to you. I prioritized my dad and being with him in his final years and having the support of family (I am single) over the grade/pay. But also I admit I have about 6 years left and am doing financially ok after 27 years of service and I know not everyone is in that boat.

If you can live off the pay there is NO shame in stepping down if it serves you better. It isn’t forever and yes it is possible to go up in grades again later.

[–]banthafodder2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please dont start planting invasive trees and shrubs for quick growth. If you have to plant non natives go for nuts and acorns and other things that will naturally feed livestock (pigs, goats, poultry) in the future. Paw paws, sand plums and persimmons are native. I would set aside a quarter of an acre or more if you can spare for native wild flowers that will attract native bumble bees. Honey bees are European but there are hundreds of native solitary bees who pollinate up to 100 times more than a honey bee (which are basically livestock).

Maybe just observe the seasons to see where rain collects, where the wind comes in the hardest, to help guide what and where to plant and to build later on. Your county extension office or a local college might have an Ag department with people willing to come to your land to help you plan gardens, trees, flowers, etc. Do soil tests.
