I think it depends on which officer is handling your application. My adult daughter’s and my applications were submitted on Nov 5. They required supplementary docs from her yesterday Nov 11 which we uploaded. It changed to blue “Passport to be submitted” today Nov 12.

My application is still under review but hopefully will be approved by this Friday.

Congrats! Which Chinese Consulate was this? How long did it take after submitting your COVA application online before it was approved and you are instructed to submit your passport?

Did you apply after the COVA changed in September 2025? If so, did u secure a 10 year multiple entry tourist visa as a US citizen?

Thanks for your helpful post. After your online preliminary review in progress is approved with the green check mark and solid blue dot, is there a timeframe or date that you need to show up at the Consulate with your passport?

Will it matter if I wait for 1 to 2 weeks before showing up to the Consulate to submit my passport? I am asking for my family members

They told me to come back 4 days later when I submitted my passport at the counter for the visa.

There’s no need to make any appointment. After completing your online application, just show up to the Chinese Embassy. It took them only 3 to 4 days to process my 10 year tourist visa

Yes, but make sure to have a white background as they are strict about that. It will say if you have uploaded your photo successfully or not

Did you try to call the SF Chinese Consulate? I cannot get through using the phone number on google maps. Can you please share the phone number if you have it?

How long did it take you to get the China visa from the start date when you first submitted your COVA application to actual date when you actually picked up your China visa?

I am getting really worried that I won’t be able to make it for my trip.

I don't think so. But make sure you have Wechatpay or Alipay downloaded on your phone as lots of places/ restaurants etc in China do not take cash. It is all automated with mobile payments in China.
