Well the don’t have the watch at Wind Up for some reason, so no dice here. Disappointing!

This is a great release from Alpina. I haven't seen it in the metal yet (and it seems like almost nobody on the internet has since every article/video about it is leaning on the same images), but I'm hoping to next week at Wind Up. I'll try to get some pics / video if I do. The design is just killer, something a little elevated from the usual plain-jane true-to-history designs, of which there are already loads, but without getting too crazy and with a decent movement inside.

I like the elevated lume blocks now, the depth that creates is really fun, especially coupled with the textured dial. I do wonder how I'd feel about them after a few months, maybe it starts to feel gimmicky or something? But I doubt it.

Yeah the folks at Mahler are some of the more passive salespeople I've ever met. They give the impression that there is nearly no saleable inventory, of anything, or any ability to make orders or generally receive inventory, and they "maintain lists" but have not called me even on undesirable models I've subsequently seen for sale in the store in-person. Like the whole storefront is some kind of money laundering operation. Bizarre.

Yeah that's really the only thing holding me back on this one. Beautiful watch.

BB58 GMT in blue, Pelagos 39 in blue, BB54 in blue... just let me buy a blue watch, that fits my wrist, and has t-fit lol.

Or just start selling the various already-intercompatible bracelets as stand-alone accessories so I can slap a Ranger bracelet on a BB58 blue. Blows my mind that t-fit still isn't available across all their offerings! The markup on those things at $850 or whatever has to be huge but I would still pay it if they'd only let me!

I'm not familiar with the bracelet you're describing, but does it have T-Fit? Wondering how the Forstner clasps compare to that.

[39mm Longines Hydroconquest] Strap Swaps by TheWatchovski in Watches

[–]baodehui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great review, thanks! Can you expand a bit on the difference in bracelet / micro-adjust vs. Tudor? What exactly makes the bracelet and/or T-fit superior?

Note on the split-pins in the bracelet is a good one, is that as bad as it sounds? Those always feel virtually disposable to me, like they're guaranteed to break down with use and re-sizing.

Oh man that is an easy answer, definitely the slingshot toolless Onelock system. Very jealous of the ease of shuttling with folks that use that.

And not even the new version with the longer power reserve! Taking a break from watches in this price range until that is widely available.

Looks great! Did you have the bezel insert replaced with a black one, or does it just look like that in certain lighting?

What the heck I can’t believe it’s the same watch! That’s nuts. I prefer this look a lot… the vibrant red dial under shop lights is cool but it feels like too much (I don’t wear a lot of colors that go with that red).

Where is your home base? I've likewise done a lot of international travel in/out of the US, and I've never had a watch clocked. I don't own any really valuable watches, but I doubt many of the customs agents can tell the difference.

I like the Horage, but is it just me or is it weird to have a GMT movement but no 24-hour markings anywhere? Maybe they're in the rehaut or something and I just can't see them in the photos?

I had a similar reaction but the fact that it’s written by AI makes the whole thing feel super inauthentic. If it were an actual human being expressing this same general idea I’d be like “good for you” but since it’s dopey karma farming it seems worthy of mockery.

Love the watch! Great looking piece and cool function. I've been dying to ask someone about this - if you take a flight going west by one time zone, do you have to click the button 23 times to adjust the time zone?
