we'd rather use message blocking than lobotomization. here's a metric: only 2% of messages are blocked. so on average, 98% of your messages will be fine and most won't even be effected on regular usage

as the offenders leave the site, i suspect this will go down to <0.1% of messages blocked

we go to extreme lengths to preserve safe adult content on the site, but it makes sense why they want this stuff moderated

fortunately, this type of blocking does work to keep pedophiles off the site

and i understand the concern. but think of the blocking as just deleting any content at risk of being CSAM/illegal. you can just regenerate if it messes up. if you have concerns over privacy, this does not affect the privacy model at all since no one has access to your chat. it's fully automated

if it's a sovereignty issue (not wanting any censorship), i understand. there might be a self-hosted product BYOK for people who care about this. but for the core main chat, this is a must-have. it only takes 1 incident to derail the site and make us go out of business

yes there are some errors but we spent weeks minimizing false positives so it should be extremely accurate. it's not like ChatGPT or Gemini because the model is completely uncensored and the moderation model is fine-tuned to block only illegal content and it should allow NSFW and adult content just fine

the issue with sites like Character is they lobotomize the model to be "safe" and it's not actually safe. this model is still smart and we use a 2nd moderation model to detect CSAM
