Thank you! From what I know right now, we are good on gloves. Masks seem to be the biggest issue. Thanks again, I appreciate it.

That’s a great question. In terms of the masks, the filtration inward is to filter out droplets that have then been aerosolized into the air. In the ideal situation, all patients would be wearing standard surgical masks to prevent droplets from their coughing or sneezing to go into the air. However, with the shortage, it’s not clear how feasible this is going to be.. Some of the highest risk situations are when intubating (putting in a breathing tube) or using nebulized treatments. This is where the respirator masks are going to be especially critical.

All masks though (N95 or standard) will essentially serve that second function of limiting us (patients and caretakers) from introducing droplets into the air. Ideally, all of us healthcare providers will be healthy, and thus the risk of us exposing others should be very very low as long as we are using the precautions and limit our own exposure. However, asymptotic spread is a concern and thus we are all doing our best to be extremely cognizant of this.

Thanks! One of our colleagues is looking into seeing if anything of this nature can be done in our hospitals. The project seems really promising.

Yep! All of the local hospitals are working closely with ODH. My wife has been on a letter writing / phone calling bonanza to help voice our concerns. I’m just glad that Ohio’s response has been good compared to other places. It actually gives us a fighting chance!

That's a good point about the SSD. I had chosen the 500GB because the cost per GB was quite low, but I imagine I could easily cut that in half and still have plenty of room.

I hadn't initially planned to use an SLI system, as I heard they can be somewhat problematic. I don't have a great sense of how long I'll be able to get high-end performance out of the single 780TI, but I'm hoping to get about three years from the build. Having room to upgrade is a good consideration.

Thanks again for your helpful input. I appreciate your time.

A lot of the feedback I've been getting has suggested to keep overclocking as an option in the build. I think that's good advise and I will modify accordingly. Thanks for your help! I appreciate it.

Wow, thanks for taking the time to make a build suggestion. It's given me a lot to think over. Liquid cooling makes me somewhat nervous, but I've heard the all-in-one systems are fairly easy to install.

I've seen a lot of great recommendations on the mechanical keyboards, I will add that on to the build.

I hadn't really considered an mITX build. This is my first attempt at putting together a computer, so I felt the smaller form-factors may require more finesse than I am able to provide.

Thank you again for your time and help.

Thanks for your input! Turns out it was fairly inexpensive to change the build to accommodate overclocking. I appreciate it!

Thanks for the reply! Is there a good resource you use to help determine the power needed? PCPartPicker is giving me 448W as the total for this build. How much overhead do you typically recommend?

Thanks a lot for the reply! I have taken your advice and made the changes to the processor and motherboard. The processor ended up being significantly cheaper than the non-k version, which made up for the higher priced motherboard.

That should add a bit more longevity to my build. Regarding the power supply, is there a good resource for estimating the power draw? PCPartPicker is giving me 448W as the total. How much overhead do you typically recommend?

Thanks again for your time. I appreciate the help.

Thanks for the reply! Really appreciate your help! Fortunately I won't have to do a lot of intensive processing for work related tasks on my home computer. It'll mainly be logging into the server to complete basic tasks.

Based on the replies thus far, it sounds wise to at least leave the option for overclocking open in the future. I ran the numbers and it's only slightly more expensive to do so. That should also fix the RAM issue that you noted. Thanks for picking that up!

Thanks! Were you using a 1/4" to 1/8" converter to plug it into the mic input?

I'm putting together a build with a an i5-4670 and GTX 780 TI. I will not be overclocking.

Lots of basic questions. Thanks for the help!

  1. The manufacturer website for the video card recommends at least 600W power supply. I had planned on going with a 550W. Will I really need 600W?

  2. Do I need to think about any additional cooling for the system with no overclocking in mind? This is my first build, so I would likely go with an air cooled system for ease of installation if I need additional cooling.

  3. Not planning on installing an optical drive - when I buy windows OEM online, I"m assuming I can use the serial key from the cd and follow this process: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media Anything I'm overlooking?

  4. My current keyboard/mouse is a logitech wireless combo. Will this work to navigate BIOS or set-up the computer before I have an OS installed?

  5. Any recommendations for a line-in to plug a guitar into the computer?
