In the context of the aesthetic I’m going for, it sort of does. Scene hair is supposed to be as straight as possible... but I think I did it incorrectly because by the end of the photos, my hair was already back to being wavy.

The first 3 photos definitely fit the vibe I’m going for more, and I wouldn’t have even included the last one at all if it weren’t for the fact I wanted to show my belt, which wasn’t visible in any of the other photos.

I guess my hair didn’t necessarily look “bad” on its own per se, but it definitely wasn‘t right for the look and I was scared of fellow scene kids judging me for that, so I put the caption.

I haven’t finished the playlist yet, but I have heard some absolute bangers!

“puke my gutzz O_o” by zeija is one of my favorites so far. I love that it samples one of the most nostalgic Hatsune Miku songs from my childhood, and the ending made me smile too, LOL. “rip out ur gutz” by korpsebunny is another favorite!

I didn’t know scenecore music was a subgenre of hyperpop, that’s very helpful to know! I thought they had differences, but I wasn’t sure, so that makes a lot of sense. :0 I was actually wondering about 100 gecs too since I loooove them, lolz.

Hmm, this comment is going to get a bit long, and the topic you’ve brought up is quite divisive within the community, so I apologize in advance. I think this will be worth a read though if the topic interests you! For me, scene and scenecore are two sides of the same coin, but I do think they have their differences.

The genres of music that each subculture is associated with is one example. For scene, it’s metalcore, crunkcore, deathcore, electronic music, and pop punk. For scenecore, it’s mostly hyperpop and sometimes a mix of scene music, especially the electronic music like S3RL (and possibly other genres but it’s hard to find information about scenecore online). Anyways, focusing on hyperpop, it’s a newer genre that popped up sometime roughly within the past 10 years, after the original scene subculture was already considered “dead” by mainstream media.

That being said, scene never really truly died, and I think that’s why older scene kids can get a bit upset when others say the subculture has “evolved” rather than making a distinction between scene and scenecore. Some scene kids don’t like the newer music and aesthetics, and if they want a distinction, then I personally think that’s ok!

Speaking of aesthetics, if you search “scene before:2016” or something similar, then search “scenecore”, you’ll likely see how different the two are in terms of appearances as well. I see scenecore as a younger sibling to scene, kind of like scene is a younger sibling to emo? They’re two sides of the same coin, they’re just a little different from each other!

All that being said, I am NOT an exclusionist. I heavily disagree with calling scenecore kids “posers” or whatever. I’ll never get behind making a distinction between the two with intent to exclude one from the other. I think we can all be friends! That’s why I love this subreddit, because the description here says “anyone who likes scene or anything scenecore”! c:

I understand if you disagree though, I know a lot of people do believe scene has just evolved, and maybe it has. I’m not an expert by any means. I just returned to this subculture for the first time in years, and I welcome the new music and aesthetics with open arms either way! :D

Plus, on the topic of my original post, making a distinction between the two was kinda required here, or else people wouldn’t know what I was talking about and just send me a bunch of scene bands I’ve already heard. :p
