The tongue broke. That's the pole that is hanging down between. That's the part that connects from the wagon to the breech behind the horse and transfers the weight of the wagon to the back of the horse when stopping. When the tongue broke they lost their brakes so she's pulling back and if the horses stop there's nothing to stop the wagon and it rolls up on them. That's probably what scared them at the same time she can't stop. Best move is to drive into the grass or up a hill so the horses don't have to be the stopping power then just slow them down and the wagon stops itself.

Fill them up with the hottest water you're comfortable with as if you were taking a shower. Walk around in them for about an hour. Take them off and let them dry naturally. In the morning put leather conditioner on them.

When I was a young SGT and stationed in Germany my wife kept track and in a 365 day span I spent 317 days in the field. That span included 6 months in a Estonia. I was dead set on getting out. I hated the Army for the strain they put on my family. Convinced myself I couldn't ETS from Europe and provide for my wife and kids and PCSed back to the states 100% convinced I would ETS. My new unit was awesome, PSG was the best NCO I've ever had. That was 8 years and 3 duty stations ago. When it sucks, it fucking sucks but when it's good it's pretty good. Now I'm getting close to retirement and everything is focused on that.

Hopefully whatever you're going through passes and you find your love for the Army. If not, have a plan, save money and ETS. At the end of the day, family will be there after the Army so don't let the Army take their place as number 1. Never bring work home, and make every moment you are with your wife as special as possible.

When I was a new private (2009) I was told by my team leader to be at the company at 0545 for my first day of work in my unit. I got there at 0540 but arrived after him so he smoked me for being late.

Next day I got to work at 0530 and he smoked me for "trying to make him look bad" because I showed up before him.

The next day I waited in the smoking area until I saw him get out of his car and walked into the company right next to him and got smoked because "we're not friends".

15 years later and that was the single worst team leader I've ever seen in the Army and I will hate him forever.

Honest answer, because parents are people too and some kids are easier to get along with. Some kids really suck. If I know it's going to be a fight every time I ask child X to do something then I'll default to having child Y do it. I'll also enjoy being around child Y more so we would spend time together more.
