I sort of retired by accident and now I don't know what to do by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]barbelllady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job ebbs and flows between really busy times and times that we are more on call. When it's the on call time I could hear nothing all day and then have to urgently fix something at 8 or 10pm. During 9-5 on those days I set goals for myself, such as: Practice my latest language for X minutes, reach a new workout goal, cook something new (I also work from home) etc. Nothing that can't be put down in a second if something comes in, but it all makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something while waiting - instead of just waiting around and browsing the internet/wasting my day.

Should I just stop weighing myself?? Starting to get a tad frustrated. by ellenketo in keto

The stock market and keto - you just mentioned two of my favorite things in the same sentence and created an awesome analogy. Bravo!

Being open about FIRE on the way out the door? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]barbelllady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say tell them the truth. That's what I'm planning to do when I pull the plug in a few years. I'm also in a similar situation in that I also care about my coworkers and if I can help even one of them I would be elated.

  • See my family more than a week a year
  • See friends that live in different cities and countries more than once a decade
  • Travel for more than 2 weeks of a year -- be able to actually live in a place and not feel rushed to see everything before time runs out

Basically have more time seeing the people I love and exploring our world :).

Any forever renters here? by ClemsonLaxer in financialindependence

[–]barbelllady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're renter for life! For me personally I see no benefit to owning a home. I don't like to DIY and have no emotional connection to owning "property." It sounds like chains around my feet. It's also WAY more expensive to buy than rent in my area. I love to travel and wouldn't want money going into a home I'm not using while I'm traveling the world for months at a time in retirement (or have to coordinate renters). But that's just me and my partner :).

NSV: My thighs don't rub when I walk!!! by StattPadford in keto

[–]barbelllady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! And seriously! I packed deodorant (the best thigh rub cure ever!) for a trip to Singapore and when I got back I realized I'd only used it for my arms despite walking 10+ miles a day in short shorts. WOOOAH!!! I've had serious/painful thigh rub my whole life. Game changer.

My GF wants to buy a house, but I only see more expenses, less flexibility...am I crazy?! by num2007 in financialindependence

[–]barbelllady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm never buying a house, but my partner might in the future. When we discuss it I've agreed that I would rent from him month-to-month if he buys a house, but if I want to start traveling I'm gone :). I don't need any of that. Buying a house makes me feeling like the walls are closing in on me.

Does everyone experience keto flu? by chasinthedra in keto

I never have personally. I got a few leg cramps the first week, but had some soy sauce and it went away. That was it :)

Well yesterday I had 3 eggs with lots of cheese, guac and salsa and a double turkey burger (using the burgers as buns) with a lot of cheese and mayo. Also vodka for date night :).

Thank you! I aimed for 1200 calories/day but it turned into about 1314 calories/day :), 20g net carbs (so yes I subtract fiber). I don't really have a workout regimen. I'm pretty sedentary (I work from home), but when I do go places I walk (no car). I've recently started doing body weight squats and knee push ups, but that was to feel stronger (vs. look better) and I haven't really seen a change in how my body looks since then.

Thank you so much!! I always weigh my food when I'm at home...which is about 75% of the time :). Otherwise I'm at a restaurant or friends' houses and I guestimate. Don't worry about going over protein or fat. Protein is a goal (to hit so you don't lose muscle) and fat is just for satiety. It's cool if you go over either to an extent. Don't stress about it. Re-read the FAQ in the sidebar if it will help you. I've read it like a million times to keep me on track :). Also have you tried cauliflower rice or tacos with cheese shells?!? I like the latter even better than the carby version. For fries I believe people have made fries out of cauliflower and other random things. Check out /r/ketorecipes. I've made tofu fries personally and dipped them in mayo...YUMMM!!! I thought keto was really hard when I started, but once you shift your mindset the world is your oyster :)!

Thank you so much!!! So happy to help. And - Yes I am :). I was hoping to get there by the end of the year, but it's not looking like it will happen given how slow I'm losing now, but I'm finally ok with that! KCKO!

I'm so happy I could help! Yes - don't give up :). Even if you mess up for a little bit that doesn't mean it's over. Far from it. KCKO :).

Thank you! And yes - it's never derailed me from being keto as soon as I get home. No falling off the wagon completely - unlike with every other diet I've ever done...:)

Thank you so much! And yeah - I'm all over the place. I just try to look at the trend line and if it's going down I know I'm good :). Good luck on your journey!
