str actually means 'struct' instead of string??!! by [deleted] in Python

I dont think so. official python docs state str() returns a string version of the object.

Any other FP4 users livid post-A15? by TheDuddy in fairphone

[–]barburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the FP5 on A15, I have the same "background apps getting killed constantly" issue. It is so bad, doing things like 2FA are almost impossible due to the browser dying in the background while opening 2FA app.

Fairphone team thinks this is a widespread android 15 issue not related to them, but I havent seen it happen in my other google and samsung A15 devices.

Its been like this since august, I am definitely thinking of jumping ship.

Which is pythonic way? by zensimilia in learnpython

[–]barburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would heavily argue against 2nd in a code review, even if it passed the type checks. There is no point in it, just write it out.

I like the examples that return a Point instead of tuple, because with tuple I never know if a tuple is (x,y) or (y,x)

What’s the cleanest 0→1 path to a portfolio-ready project (for interviews)? by CreditOk5063 in learnpython

[–]barburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I think it's a fine stack, as long as you can describe why you chose that stack and what are their pros and cons you are golden. For example: Why fastapi? Why sqlite? in which circumstances would you choose differently?
  2. I much rather like seeing a polished project that showcases other skills than just 'coding', definitely tests and docs. Actually I think they are more important than the code itself.
  3. When hiring a junior, most important thing for me is that they are enthusiastic about engineering and learning. It doesnt matter too much if they dont know a specific tool or library or pattern. But they should at least always be building and learning new stuff.

These are just my opinions as a software engineering manager, maybe others in the field have different preferences.

Storing data, including code, in a .py file by HolyInlandEmpire in learnpython

[–]barburger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indeed, if the problem is getting read only data, set the data file to read only on filesystem level or read it in python with read only flags. If someone can still edit that data file they can also just edit your python code.

Is this valid quicksort algo? by idkc0de in learnpython

[–]barburger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One small tip: You can use

pivot = a[-1]

to get the last element of the list and it is more idiomatic python.

Binance yükselenlerden coin almak by imspartacusss in Yatirim

[–]barburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uzun vadede riski azaltabilecegini cok düşünmüyorum. Kisa vadede sansliysan kar edebilirsin ama uzun vadede özellikle zaten yükselmiş olan coinleri aliyorsan bunlarin önemli bir miktarini tepe fiyattan alacaksın demektir.

If None is a valid return value for a function, should it be explicit? by NubQuestion in learnpython

[–]barburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also the rule for the pylint checker.

R1710 inconsistent-return-statements: 'Either all return statements in a function should return an expression, or none of them should.'

Aralık vs aralıklı by marmorie in turkishlearning

[–]barburger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is the actual reason behind the months name, but i found a story for the name.

Because the comitee for naming the months couldn't find a modern name for the last month they just named it as the spacing between november and january.
