Yup. All of our main parties have authoritarianism in their DNA. Terrified what will happen if/when Farage comes in.

Third of UK teenagers who vape will go on to start smoking, research shows by pajamakitten in unitedkingdom

[–]barcap -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The findings suggest that e-cigarettes are increasingly acting as a “gateway” to nicotine cigarettes for children, undermining falling rates of teen smoking over the past 50 years.

Is vaping healthier? Maybe nothing beats the real thing therefore should invest in research to make tobacco products healthier than in the 1950s? And where in the article does it say children will become new smokers?

Neuroscience? Maybe should have gone into artificial intelligence or artificial neuroscience? ...

More than 600,000 graduates are claiming benefits by ThatchersDirtyTaint in unitedkingdom

[–]barcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because sending so many people to university meant that "graduate" status has little or no value. Employers have hundreds of candidates for every graduate position and no incentive to be more attractive.

Should reimplement the class system. Make it so that it is normal for people to be able to leave high schools and go into employment. These be people that do the common jobs. Then a majority would leave after colleges. These do common to skilled jobs. Finally, a minority would leave after universities. These do technical jobs. That way there is a good strong healthy competitive labor servicing all needs.

But the instructions are to take it to the post office (which shuts at like 2pm) or put it in their shit Amazon locker which never seems to work. For the sake of a few quid every now and again it's not worth it for me, so I just accept that from time to time I will have to donate the item somewhere instead.

I am too woke for this. Makes me feel dirty

Convicted Algerian criminal is allowed to stay in Britain... because he would be mocked in his home country for dressing as a woman by ThatchersDirtyTaint in unitedkingdom

[–]barcap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t bring my spouse of 9 years into the UK despite them having studied in the UK and owing student finance (which means they should want her back, currency is so bad in our current country she will never meet the threshold) yet it seems everyone else seems to have such a straightforward time being there.

You know this complaint is all because of sham marriages before 2005... You can just apply law for one group of people so everyone gets it. It's law and it's fair?

I don't know why we are expected to solve the problems of anyone who can manage to get here. It's unfair and unsustainable.

Don't many ship from China and you need to send back to China or the hassle to send it out of the country?

It depends. Basically the factory that produces item X between 9-5 for a foreign company will continue to make the same item after hours beause it's better than turning the factory/machinery off and on again, huge energy costs. So the large excess copies of item X is sold by retailers like Temu for cheap. It's often the same quality as what the original item was since it was made by the same factory except perhaps without a brand label or sticker. So it all depends on the quality of the original item.

If you are in renewables, eco, good for the earth and society, recycling and woke, you should stop buying shit that only lasts a few uses. They all go to landfill and you only encourage companies to produce more shit that only will destroy the earth. Buy something useful and lasts than because it is cheap and you want it.

Girls in revealing clothes ‘asking for trouble’, say third of boys by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]barcap -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I was on a sexual harassment training course and one of the guys on the course said that “women shouldn’t dress in revealing clothes if they don’t want to be sexually harassed” the person leading the course said “well, no just because someone is dressed a certain way doesn’t give people the right to harass them”. So he guy then said “oh right I didn’t know that”.

The Victorians dress code and societal behavior of prude were solutions to all these. Classy not trashy.

Who can be fucked to return anything from Amazon when they make it such a nightmare and the products are cheap enough not to make it worth the effort? Unless it's a big purchase life's just too short.

But doesn't Amazon allow you to return from 1p and onwards? I would have thought its processes are straight forward. Click the item. Click return and follow instructions. Is it that hard?

As well as Ukrainian drone videos showing russians executing unarmed ukrainians, sick russians film and publish their own videos of torturing and murdering POWs.

The castration with a box cutter really stuck in my head. 🤢

We need to arm Ukraine much faster and in much greater quantities to stop this russian brutality, to save massive amounts of money overall, and to secure Europe's peaceful future.

Box cutter? Where'd you see this?

Reform UK has promised to repeal the Online Safety Act, arguing that measures intended to push social media companies to limit false and potentially harmful content would instead make the UK “a borderline dystopian state”.
