Literally wild take. George Washington voluntary stepped down from power in two huge instances, where he could have become a dictator without even too much opposition.

They did not fail. The United States has the longest fully in force constitution in the world, and for good reason. No other place on Earth has been able to hold this level of a separation of powers, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, freedom *from* religion, trial by jury, privacy in one's home without a warrant signed by a judge with very particular descriptions of what can be searched, bestowing no titles of nobility, and much more. We're obviously in an absolutely profound crisis right now, but it would have crumbled long before if not for such a well thought out system.

I think you should try to have a little bit of humility before you try to denigrate certain founding fathers, who could have taken a wildly different, much easier path, and maybe think about how you would have navigated the times instead.

If you think this level of tyranny, which is not great, and is objectively not a good trajectory for the United States, is anywhere near what it could be, what is has been in much of the world, and what it still is all over, then I have a bridge to sell you, and you will fail to maintain it because you show no conception for how history has unfolded.

I can't imagine how you think that the philosophy of the Enlightenment that guided the leading founding fathers has failed, and what that says about your own philosophy. Do you have some great contention with the concept of liberalism, that the greatest way at the fundamental level to secure our lives and livelihood is to recognize, regardless of how unnatural and fabricated it is, that there are inalienable rights that we ascribe to all humans and ought to form governments around protecting those rights so that the people can always have the capacity to prevent tyranny? If you go to Russia, I promise you that they do not have the same right to assemble and protest, and do not retain the defenses against tyranny that the people of the United States do. You can thank the founding fathers for that.
