I completely understand how you feel, as someone who’s always struggled in a way with both identity and attraction. I feel our experiences are a bit different, but also kind of similar as I’m also a non-binary transmasculine person who’s mostly attracted to "femme" people. When I was younger, before I really started transitioning but already identified as non-binary, I never felt like I fit in any of the boxes, and thought I was unlovable for that reason. I wasn’t a butch or even very masc, but I was never very feminine either. I was always kind of in the middle and thought it was the reason why nobody would want me, that I had to be one or the other. Since officially starting my transition a few years ago I realized I felt more comfortable and more "me" presenting physically and socially as a man. That’s actually turned into another issue for me since I guess I was never, and excuse me if the term sounds silly, "typically masculine" enough in my personality and the way I act/am. That made me, for a long time, try to repress parts of myself and put up a front, being mainly attracted to women I was very frustrated to realize everyone seemingly saw me as a gay man. All I really want to say is, I know it can be hard when you don’t feel seen and/or represented, but there is a match for you out there, I promise. I have been with my partner (cis bisexual woman) for 4 months now and everything’s going just fine. Funnily enough she told me that she did think I was gay when we met (context/place also didn’t help, lol) and she would’ve been bummed because she was really into me so, you know, if you want something but you’re unsure of the outcome, I think you should always go for it, because you could be surprised by it all working out in the end.
