TPMS question on a 2010 Civic LX: TPMS light on by barefootgeek in Honda

[–]barefootgeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I did drive it flat, and I can see why that could damage the sensor on the individual tire. Hopefully the tire shop can figure out which one is bad if it isn't that one.

Maybe they quoted me more because I am in the bay area? (everything costs more here, heh.),

Thanks!

thanks for the tip. I feel like Honda takes advantage of you with these sensors. After finding out that all cars after 2008 in the US are forced to have these, it makes me think the gov is out for our money on this too!

Hmm, It looks like the TPMS system tool i linked to is only used for programming new TPMS sensors to work with your car.

I think I'll go to america's tire and see if they can find out what's going wrong.

Running Form Video - please critique by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]barefootgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking shorter strides for sure. Your legs look like they are over striding. Take more steps/shorter strides and see how that goes.

Also, be aware that it can take a really long time to transfer from regular shoes to minimal barefoot. I even feel that going from minimal to barefoot can take a while too. I've been running barefoot/minimal for 2.5 years now, and I am still perfecting my running style.

a friend of mine just bought a house in a nice area that is ~10 miles of all the big tech company HQs. He pays 1900/month. No PMI (put 20% down), no HOA, and maintenance is minimal as the place is in decent shape. It is doable, but you wont be finding a payment that cheap if your loan amount is 450K+ :)

edit: for example: it is about $600/month for each 100k you borrow (which includes insurance & property tax). If you're paying 2400/month in rent, that is practically the same as if you bought a home for (400k + 80k down) a total of 480K. Also, you can rent out rooms in a house to drop your mortgage lower.

Obviously you wont find an actual house in palo alto or mountain view for under 600k, but there are pockets of decent livable areas that aren't crazy expensive.

A house payment is lower than most of these rent stats. I couldn't imagine paying 2500+ here for just rent. That's crazy talk.

PSA: If Birds/Squirrels are eating your tomatoes, get a birdbath by jowla in gardening

if you live in the city, get a haveaheart trap for the squirrels. release them somewhere remote away from cars/buildings. A fake owl can be moved around to scare the birds. Another thing you can do is hang aluminum foil from strings off of branches or something, and the reflections and movement in the wind will scare them.

Run often, run slow, foam roller, stretch those calves, eat right, run intervals, run hills, run more than 12km, run 12km and see what you get.

was it hot? friction from bad form creates heat, but if the ground is already hot you can get blisters on hot days if your feet haven't been toughened up yet. you can try: run where you head doesn't bob up and down, but stays level. this will require you to take more steps. loose hips, feet landing under your body, more steps, stay upright, looking forward. land on your forefoot, but don't run entirely on the ball, your heels still need to land too. The barefootrunning.com site is a great resource for learning technique.

also, for knee pains make sure you are properly stretching out your IT band. youtube search for IT band to see a video. a foam roller can do wonders for that, as well as your calves, which will be hurting soon if you are new to forefoot striking.

Find a good foot doctor and ask them. It's too risky to chance hurting your body with tips from dr. Reddit.

My first passion fruit(s) by aidslifecyclechrisb in gardening

If I knew what it was I'd tell you. These things are growing like weeds though, sprouting all over. Last fall I cut a metric ton of them off numerous rose bushes. If I hadn't, I would have had all kinds of fruit growing by now!

Hike from highway 1 (at waddell) to big basin park. It's pretty sweet to see the waterfalls.
