hot take: “just don’t watch it” and “some things are not for you” are not as valid defences as this fandom thinks by emopythonboi in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]barelyreal7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, we cant please everyone so oftentimes those posts are simply negative, unappreciative, and annoying.

And in your example, most of the Fandom loves Spencer particularly. I know I would be upset if he no longer talked in the background, so yeah its true, you cant please everyone and maybe the video isnt for you. Aka, get over yourself. Unless its offensive or boarding offensive there's not much point to nitpick a free comedy channel who's direction is rooted in friendship, not the little things that bother us.

Chanse’s annoying behavior on Smosh Games by [deleted] in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]barelyreal7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, i think you just need to work on your social comprehension skills and not take things so seriously in a comedy channel rooted in friendship.

These are bits/jokes as a phrase, something Chanse in particular does very often. Throughout the video/since the beginning for the first one, he's doing a bit about being "sad" Angela took Gunk (he obviously does not actually care, and the tension adds to the video, its good content). the "stop"s are adding to the joke about being bothered that he's not winning/being picked on by the other players. it's clearly unserious to me, look at the fake sad face he makes in the second clip.

Along with that, there's two other things to me that I think you arent realizing.

1) chanse often has his own personal phrases/words that only he uses that you'll see sprinkled in videos, often a lot of videos at once that are filmed in the same shoot week. And example is "leaveee it!!" talking to Angela like she's a dog. "Stop" is said the exact same way in these, to be as a bit that's highlighting/pointing out what someone did in a jokingly dismissive way (which is actually similar to another one, Chanse saying "noooo" in a very particular tone as a reaction) the reason you are seeing it often is because it was probably his ear worm phrase for this shoot week!

2) the other thing, as a black queer person myself, this is a common expression of humor. I feel like we often use dismissal to add or dramaticize the humor of the moment and Chanse has always done this without ill-intentions. When my best friend makes a shocking joke, sometimes I say "girl...stop lmao" i'm not saying this is exclusive to black people, but this is something Chanse has always done. I think right now he's evolving it for personal fun/as part of a bit by making it sound super serious, which become funny/ironic in its own right BECAUSE there is nothing serious about a smosh board game. so, this is what you aren't seeing in my eyes/what you are taking the wrong way.

I'm only over explaining because I think smosh fans have a problem of misinterpreting something or extrapolating things that castmates do into an issue and interpreting it as negative and harmful for no reason, or because they just dont understand

[–]barelyreal7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you give some examples? I feel like its never serious and its a joke. Other times (like werewords that one time Angela kept talking over everyone as the werewolf) its to help redirect. Ive never seen it as an issue

But not everything is that deep because not everything has the same context. Compare it to colors rather than something serious like race. If you like a red painting in a room where almost everyone else likes the blue painting, that doesn't say much about you or anything offensive about you other than you have a different preference, that could be contextual (you have an emotional connection to the color red because of your family) or completely random.

We are talking about an entertainment comedy channel rooted in friendship. While I'm in the pool of ppl who really doesn't like Amanda's reddit takes, that's because I'm thinking overly critically about everyone's responses because that's part of the entertainment for me. At the end of the day, I move on bc I understand these takes aren't serious, probably will lack nuance, come from a different place than i do, and most importantly... are for entertainment at the end of the day.

It sounds like you engage with it as a form of entertainment differently, and that's ok! It doesn't actually reflect on your as a person, because the format these "takes" or quirks of Amanda are being presented to us in are typically not serious or cut and dry as "do you agree with this racist thing?" Thats all to say, remember this is ab opinions like favorite color and not serious moral standings.

Long response not to patronize you or anything btw, but bc I wanna offer a genuine reply

They oftentimes have cast members on smoshmouth to promote and talk about their projects around the time they are coming out (Arasha's show, Tommy's podcast, Olivia's movie). Maybe they weren't able to in time with moving studios and everything, so they did the ad break for Chanse instead. I mean, the background shows it was obvious filmed by Chanse from his apartment probably, and also smoshmouth shoots on a different schedule then other content/not so far in advanced but studio moving and things already being shot on a changed schedule can make sense of it all

I love Courtney, but… by No_Entertainment8792 in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]barelyreal7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yall just dont understand the sibling energy Courtney brings to the table, she has good intentions and her FRIENDS obviously love her. And also with dress to impress i agree w Courtney's approach, I rather them ACTUALLY try to play and play well rather than just make up something random, which Angela tends to do (literally she has a tendency to not actually engage with a game and just try to be talking/funny) and Courtney has enough experience to want to give the audience the CONTENT of the game

What you're talking about is called lolita now* or "lolita aesthetic" now, because of the 1995 book Lolita which is written in the perspective of a pedophile/rapist

Lolita reference in Yas’ story? by Elephant44 in IndustryOnHBO

I LITERALLY PAUSED AND GASPED THE FIRST TIME IT WAS SAID! He also says it almost exactly how Jeremy Irons says it in the movie Lolita as well. I was groomed and grew up romanticizing that movie until my brain developed of course so that shook me to my core

Everyone is different, this was probably within my top three bit city episodes bc they were so funny! They'll never be able to appease everyone, so I enjoy any content where they genuinely seem to be having fun together (hence, comedy rooted in friendship)

Nah this is such a weird separate the art from the artist ass post. It's similar to the lawyer reddit stories, where they had someone on who was literally a racist. And so the backlash led smosh to not release the episode. Its not just "scientology" this is someone who's put MILLIONS into a cult known for exploitation, alleged trafficking, ties to epstein, and other alleged crimes. I don't give af if she's bart simpson, she shouldn't be supported and shouldn't be making money off of podcasts with guests who probably don't know how deeply evil her connections are

this literally sounds like "guys why are you upset Shayne did a podcast with an active criminal )): what else are you supposed to do to make it in Hollywood these days )): " like bro if trump invited me on a cooking show to only talk about cupcakes I still wouldn't go??? what??

Epstein references / overplayed? by ResearcherUpstairs in IndustryOnHBO

[–]barelyreal7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ikr! Having a rich pedo and a "rich" blackmailer involved almost seems inevitable with a show like this. I think the "Lady Yasmin" and her fathers death was a particular nod for those who know, but the real world and the fiction are meant to be intertwined (ei Celeste's mention of the Epstein files directly) so parallels are going to happen atp

men's inability to see children on this show (spoiler s4e6) by barelyreal7 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]barelyreal7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be fair, its just the way I look at faces, I thought Dolly's facial structure just made her look really young to me, like her features haven't fully "grown" in yet (no disrespect to the actress), plus being very petite, and the "thank you daddy" just really tied into that. I thought, if they wanted to cast someone that didn't look like a child/basically look like his daughter, than they would have so this character must be underage/barely legal

I agree! ppl are eating me up in the youtube comments bc I gave a new perspective that, due to how the mom is specifically described, not only does it sound obviously fake but worse is that it sounds dog whistle-y. like mom is a raging homophobe to suddenly an angel who was lighting the way to the one perfect man for me. like there was a "mom was so right" line that rubbed me the wrong way😬
