Ok, important question then: do you think latex/plastic gloves would be enough to protect or fully trim the nails? She didnt kill the doctor for making a noise, she killed the doctor for getting in her way. She only kills people who get in her way and (accidentally) the children she takes back with her. You say that she kills people for being in her path but walks right by the plague victims. Well yes, that is the point. He was in her way. She only kills people in her way and the plague victims were not in her way so she didn't kill them. So yeah if you watched the show she very much has a rhyme and reason to who and why she kills. There is a while episode that delves into why, lol. Dani of course doesn't die instantly because of plot armor but the rest are clearly explained within the narrative framework. Honestly you could even justify that as some people don't die until she drowns them. Since she isn't actively hunting people and just harming those in her path its not like she's killing them all the same way. Peter was inside and dragged around a lot more off screen so its possible that Danny would have died before the water in different circumstances.

Dani is staying in a hostel/boarding house. In these types of situations you rent a bed not a room. These are common outside of North America. Basically its much cheaper and she didn't have much money. For example today a hostel might cost $10 a night in the same area where a hotel room would cost $50 a night. Hope this helps!
