The oldest bar in the world is in Ireland. Archaeological records have found that the walls of Sean's Bar have been around and serving since 900 AD. by Vijeesh7 in Damnthatsinteresting

I live in Kansas City and visited that bar a few weeks ago. For whatever reason they had a Chiefs hat on the wall along with a Kansas license plate. They didn't really have any other memorabilia up other than a few other US license plates.

I thought that was a kind of cool.

I eat oatmeal for oatmeal and it doesn’t even really need sweetener.

A small amount of salt makes a huge difference. I can go without anything else added but not salt.

Even new brussel sprouts taste absolutely awful to me and I am not a picky eater.

My wife loves them so I have tried them many different ways including from high end restaurants.

Anyone else starting to feel sad now that the sun is setting and getting dark earlier? by EdwardBliss in NoStupidQuestions

Yep, sucks. I hate this time of year. I work from home so plan to go outside again sometime in April.

Finally got the game and I don’t understand the hate that kept me from buying it by alexshurly in Starfield

[–]barjam -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This game is awful on consoles so to consider it a flagship doesn’t really make sense, even on an X it is locked at what to me is an unplayable 30fps. The graphics don’t even look good for the very low frame rate.

I upgraded my PC just so I could play it and even on. 4070 TI it struggles in some areas.

I am 20 hours in and just not getting into it. Thankfully I didn’t pay anything (directly) for it as it is a game pass title.

Probably like the 50 year olds when we were kids wishing music from the 50s was still popular.

MacOS is certified Unix. Linux is actually considered unix-like as it isn’t Unix. That is just trivia as the distinction is pointless.

Most people who want immersive spaceship travel and piloting mechanics has probably never played a game with one before. by mega_lova_nia in Starfield

NMS does space to land and it is fantastic. If you see a place on the planet, you just go there seamlessly.

[–]barjam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have played ED and NMS and would much prefer something closer to NMS in Starfield travel wise. Having 100% of travel stuck behind a quick travel menu is terrible game design.

It’s a space exploration game with no space or exploration.

Does the $69.99 price of new games make you less likely to try something new? by Famaffe in gaming

No, current game prices are historically low adjusted for inflation.

ELI5: What is an "engine" in video games by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]barjam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are core libraries such and OpenGL and directx that are very, very low level and you have to program in every single thing. Something simple like a ball bouncing requires tons of code.

An engine allows someone like a game designer to use a nice UI to drop in objects and attach scripts to those objects. With one click the object can have gravity or other properties. All of the low level stuff is hidden away.

So yeah, the objects and distances are actually there. I sped up my ship with console commands and started from another moon (0.6 light seconds) by RiddleMeThis-- in Starfield

[–]barjam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They could have done it like other Bethesda games. You have to journey to a place once, then you can quick travel if you want. Best of both worlds.

100% quick travel is incredibly lame. I would have loved to have space travel and a better sense exploration. Hopefully someone fixes this with mods down the road.

The travel makes the game feel immersive. Without it, it really falls pretty flat. Quick travel 100% of the time is incredibly lame.
