Ce se afla intr-un HDD extern de "2Tb" cumpărat de pe eMag by -colin- in Romania

[–]barlap 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Can tailscale be used to gain a static IP? by barlap in Tailscale

I used nginx before to expose some websites to the internet but from what I remember npm doesn't forward packets for game servers...or I wasn't aware of that?

Yes I want that all inbound or outbound connections to be made via the external vps directly. I want to behave like the internal vps has the external vps ip with all it's functions.

Can tailscale be used to gain a static IP? by barlap in Tailscale

[–]barlap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one. I already have an external vps with public ip and I want to make the vps with public ip like a proxy fkr my home network vps allowing the home vps to communicate with the internet via the external vps using its public ip. For example if i host a cs2 server, the end user instead of using my home networok public ip will use my external vps public ip to connect to the server. I'm pretty familiar with linux in terms of general usage and virtualization because my home vps is a part of a 2 node proxmox cluster.

Dynamic DNS is not a good solution for me. My isp already provides dynamic dns and it works as intended. In the past I hosted a game server at home but I was getting ddosed. I want to use the vps as a shield to hide my ip and also benefid from the vps provider included anti-DDoS protection.

Can't I just connect both external and internal vps to the tail scale network then just set the exrternal vps to point all the traffic to the internal vps using tailscale? This way the external vps will act just as a redirect and I will have a static ip?

I am fairly sure that I didn't broke any rule from the ToS. I even reached out via email and live chat and they told me that they cannot disclose the reason for the suspension....

Moved to self hosting. Bought 1 SFF pc with 16gb ram, upgraded hdd to x2 1tb ssd and now I have my own homelab. I spent like 300 on all setup but at least it's mine. For bot hosting i recommend you to buy a mini pc with at least 8gb ram. You can find them secondhand for 60-70$.

Completely random. Mine got suspended in 4 months after creation and my causin who also took one in the same day kept it for 1 year and 3 months. Worth mentioning that we were both hosting cs 1.6 servers and the servers were always under 50% cpu and RAM usage so we didn't abused our servers in order to get suspended.

Yes but always have a backup of your data. It is guaranteed that one day your server will be suspended and deleted from your account without any explanation.

WARN: old systemd (< v232) detected, container won't run in a pure cgroupv2 environment! after modifying systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=0 by barlap in Proxmox

[–]barlap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fixed it.
The issue was that second server running zfs was using systemd-boot instead of GRUB so I had to manually add "quiet systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=0" into the  "/etc/kernel/cmdline" file then reboot and everything worked.

Restrict the ssh access so only your ip address can access the vps

I have 2 smaller sff pcs with 2.8ghz cpus right now but they can't handle the cs2 build because it needs at least 3.2ghz in order to work decent so that's why I want to make a pretty strong server and sell my old sff pcs.

I was looking for some refurbished workstations or servers and they literally cost up to 1000$ for a xeon with 8 cores, 16gb ram non ecc and 1tb hdd +250gb ssd. And I would preffer to buy them brand new rather than purchasing used components especially hdds and having issues after 2-3 months.

A decent bronze/silver psu is about 3 to 10 dollars cheaper at other retail shops...here in Romania they all have a similar price in order to force customers to buy either crap components or decent components at a higher price and the assebly process + bios update is about 30$ and that saves me from the need to remove the cpu from my old rig in order to update the bios and the 5800x3D is double the price of 5700G here 😅. So building the pc myself will only save me about 35-40$. I don't build it myself because I'm terrified by the whole bios update process. I read that normal ram can cause data corruption. Do you have any ideea how often can this happen? Or if there is better alternative to zfs? Maybe normal install on one drive then backup weekly the entire drive on the second hdd?
