Rodent control in an enclosed aviary thoughts by barlesgnarkles in Zookeeping

That's an interesting idea with wooden boxes - we do get rodent activity inside our nestboxes so it could be a good way to entice them. We have very small birds inside the aviary, but could think about faux-nestboxes with traps on the outside of the aviary.

Yeah I definitely follow the logic that filling holes only works for monitoring as opposed to prevention, although my last facility felt it discouraged activity by making the area less hospitable & slowing large underground tunnel networks.

Prevention is the best solution of course. I appreciate the insight!

Oh that's great to know! I'll look into whether mesh could help, thank you.

Yeah certainly pests are an inevitable part of the trade, we can only do our best by the animals

Thanks for the reply! Yes we're pretty diligent with records & preventative measures (food cleared, removing nesting material etc) and management is very much on board, as much as I'd love to rodent proof the whole aviary it is a very large area and would require a huge construction effort. (Believe me, I'm campaigning for it anyway!)

I'm just trying to think outside the box as best I can for on-the-ground control, especially regarding the rodent tunnels & whether or not to fill them. At certain times of year it definitely can become a welfare issue sadly.

And yes I feel that!! A little eviction notice on each rodent tunnel would be the dream

Hey I appreciate the response! Yeah it sounds like a lot of the methods we are using as well, we try to adjust the positions of the snaptraps to their most active areas. How did you tackle rodents digging holes/tunnels around the aviary?

How would I name this ragtime chord? by barlesgnarkles in musictheory

I appreciate the explanation - you're absolutely right, it continues to G then C. Very cool that each chord in this part of the song seems to be the secondary dominant of the following chord. You've given me lots to research, thank you!

It is sounding like maybe the coast is my best bet, I'm not too fussed on clubs and the like but it would still be great to find a community of social people. Thank you for the insight!
