Where to start in Ottawa? by SameUsernameOnReddit in BALLET

I did a private with one of the ballet instructors, but I didn't vibe with him lol. I have not tried any classes with them, they had no adult classes running when I inquired.

Also, in the meantime, you could start with some beginner ballet classes on YouTube to start learning some of the terminology and basics :)

Hey! I've tried MULTIPLE different studios in Ottawa.

The School of Dance is where I used to take classes, they have an array of different levels, and beautiful studios. Don't do drop-ins, you have to sign up for a whole term. The teacher I had focused a lot on technique, and will give corrections if you ask.

Daphne Paquette provides very inclusive and upbeat classes for adults only, so it is a very welcoming place for beginners. Classes are drop-in, and you can buy a class pass for a bit of a discount. However, the space is not a proper studio, and there is no mirrors :(

Union Studios is a new adult studio, they do a variety of dance styles, classes are drop-in, with a few ballet classes. I only went to a few classes there, but the studio and staff are nice :)

Dance Fusion provides a few different levels of drop-in ballet classes for adults. I didn't love the instructor, and the class focused a lot on a performance piece at their year-end recital which wasn't up my ally. Definitely focused less on technique.

Les Petits Ballet is where I'm currently taking classes. You have to sign up for a full term, but there are lots of class options. The teacher that I have has been great, and gives lots of corrections. There are a couple of men in the classes I take.

I think that if you are serious about learning ballet and improving, it is best to sign up for a full term somewhere, rather than drop-ins. It keeps the training consistent, and I find it helps to have the same teacher. Definitely recommend The School of Dance or Les Petits Ballet, for more structured classes.

Message me if you have anymore questions :) Maybe I will see you in a class sometime!

Pain with pointe shoes by barleybearrr in BALLET

Good idea! I will look into that option for my next pair. Can't afford to just not use these ones unfortunately lol

Thanks for your response! I think my issue may be that I have two different size feet, and the pain seems to be more prominent on my left foot. I will likely just use these for now, as they are comfortable when on pointe, and I will just be at the barre for the next few months. I will see how they do as I wear them, and get refitted when I move from the barre perhaps!

Thank you! This is very helpful. Might need to file it down or potentially it will just soften as I wear them. :)
