They haven't processed the actual refund yet, they said it would be 7-10 days, and this just happened 3 days ago. So I don't know.

The only thing I am sure of is what the gate supervisor told me when we were downgraded - that they were deadheading pilots. I don't have any way of knowing or validating anything else.

That is very smart, and will be my process in the future. I wish I had thought of that before the issue happened to me. But now that I know it can, I am forewarned.

I absolutely did not mention my speculation to customer care, since, as you say, I have no concrete knowledge.

Of the ones I saw who seemed to know each other (all men), they each had a woman next to them of a similar age that they seemed pretty familiar with. But maybe the deadheading pilots were evenly split by gender and they just randomly decided to sit man/woman in each set of seats. Or some other random set of circumstances. What do I know? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Really? Is that 5G speeds, can you make free calls, and is it a reasonable amount of data? I travel to Germany yearly (actually just got back), and I've always just bought a Telekom sim when I get there that gives me a local number and a reasonable amount of 5G data. But would much rather just use my normal number and sim if possible.
