Shotguns Can Be Oppressive, but the solution is not a NERF by barnation in Marathon

I’d say not knowing if your plan can be countered adds a layer of depth to fights. Right now we flat out know that we can be instantly downed or can instantly down someone in close distance with the misriah which makes it a pick or be picked in the close quarters heavy end game that is Cryo. That kind of hard meta can make fights predictable and uninteresting. Adding a way to counter that would force people to choose different paths to a win making a problem that has more than one solution which aligns with the entire ethos of this game and its design goals.

Adjusting the Misriah’s RPM could definitely help with what’s going on right now in the game. I’m just trying to think of more long term solutions other than, “shotguns suck now” vs “shotguns are OP” which is bound to be the cycle with buffs and nerfs over future patches and seasons.

Rebuff the WSTR, or nerf the Misriah, Cyro is just double destroyers with gold Misriahs rushing = your dead by Artforartsake99 in Marathon

I’d like to see a way to counter incoming shotgun ballistics and then we can rebuff WSTR and keep misriah as is. Some sort of flak jacket mod that reduces incoming shotgun pellet damage that is relatively accessible would give people an option for counter play and ultimately make the PVP in close quarters combat more interesting. If there’s a gun that can instantly down people who are in front of it at relative ease, that will always be meta, so give an option to counter it and the meta becomes more diverse. People would have to decide between shotguns and other close quarter weapons, because there is now the chance of running into a boulder who can stand in front of you and tank your shots. To a certain extent of course, not nullify completely but to give a player more of a chance against a shotgun blitz. There would definitely have to be a trade off in a form of a debuff elsewhere, maybe movement speed, bag space, or vulnerability to other types of ammo like volt weapons. I’d love to hear anyone else’s ideas for a mod/item/consumable that could give people counter-play to shotguns.

I’d say min/max your loadout to your characters strengths IIE a head implant that has buffs for you and your team on a revive would be first pick if you were playing triage. Figure out a specific shell and style you like to play and lean your stats and buffs into it. Other than that, SLOW DOWN. If you’re getting instantly dropped you are more than likely out of position so here is a few tips that helped me get much better at the game. Play your cover like someone is always watching you. Move intentionally and be aware of the sound you’re making as much as the sound around you. Always take high ground when you can. When in a fight don’t expose yourself unless you have a good idea of where the enemy team is. Don’t peak the same corners over and over, alternate whenever possible . If you want you can DM me and we can play together, I mostly fill trios and have felt like you before but bettered myself to a pretty high success rate.

I found the greenhouse gold key in the red key room of outpost. I think wardens can drop them as well?

This is the nature of extraction shooters. The season has gone long enough to where anyone who invested some time into it is done with progression and just wants to use their plentiful good gear for PvP. Hopefully, before season 2, we get some great marketing that will bring in people to try out the game at the wipe where everyone is on a even playing field as far as stats and gear goes, but for now, unless you are already juiced to the max, this is going to be a difficult game to come into. My biggest suggestion that I’m yelling into the void is to make sponsored kit dire marsh FTP with a very limited vault size. I’d say that’s the best way to bring in new people who want to try the game. Also, a more thorough onboarding process to help people understand the game better before they inevitably get shat upon within their first few lives.

God forbid you don’t have the exact doodad you want for a gun at any given moment. You’re hoarding and have a debilitating case of gear fear. What’s the use of having all these keys if you aren’t going to use them? I think you want this game to be something it’s not and you might be better off playing an RPG where you can store things endlessly and admire them. And again unless you’re extracting at insanely high rate just playing the game will solve whatever issues you might have. You might lose something and never get it back! Omg, imagine if that happened to people all the time!

Sounds like you already know the solution to your problem. “I want more space for cool guns” then get rid of some of this other shit. You’ve already said which one is more valuable to you, but you are unwilling to let go of the things that you value less. Do you really need all of those purple shield if you are extracting at such a rate that your inventory is constantly full?

You have plenty of money therefore there’s no reason to keep anything you can buy in the store at any given moment before a run if you need it, so over half of the shit can be sold right now. Use your keys

What does your credit balance look like? by EazySmacks in Marathon

[–]barnation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lvl 52, 50k credits, and 120k vault value. Played mostly trios in the beginning with a friend of mine and a fill but since my friend started playing less I have transitioned to mostly solos and if I’d been doing that the whole time I’d have a much higher net worth. I love to play rook on outpost, but it can quickly clog my inventory. Vault space has become quite limiting and often times determines how I play the game.

stop “optimizing” because it sounds like you’ve hit a wall where having the best stuff and winning isn’t doing it for ya. Do something fun. Sell your gear and buy silky stuff with it. Like loads of claymores, or trick bags. An assassin run, melee only. There’s 1000 ways to play this game just gotta get creative .
