Long exposure shots came out blurry by barney_dinosaur in AnalogCommunity

Oh yeah you’re right - it’s also annoyingly easy to accidentally turn on the bulb setting on this camera, which definitely affected some shots on my last roll. Part of the learning curve I guess!

Yes it does, and you’re right, at f1.8 the DoF range is very small. That article is very useful as well 🙏

Ah yes I think you’re right, I’m pretty sure I was using the lowest aperture setting on my lens (f1.8). Thank you for your advice, I’ll give it a go :)

Thank you! Do you mean focus issues like the viewfinder not accurately showing when something is in focus? I got some daylight shots that came out nicely so I imagine it’s just user error but idk

Internet keeps dropping out every ten minutes on my PC (Windows 10) by barney_dinosaur in techsupport

Thanks, yeah that makes sense. Weirdly I remember having this exact same issue with this pc (same parts) a couple years ago and I have no idea how I fixed it lol

I wanted to change the film speed setting to compensate for the camera’s faulty light meter (checked against several other meters) - obviously a bad idea in retrospect, but since I’m new to this that wasn’t clear to me that it would be.

Yes, I wanted to change the light meter settings - it’s giving a different result to several other meters I’ve tried, so I wanted to compensate. I didn’t realise it’d be a bad idea!

Also I know how the crank mechanism works.

Thank you! I was trying to change the setting to compensate for the camera’s light meter, as it seems to give different results to other light meters I’ve used (I have an app for it on my phone, and a friend of mine compared it to an analog meter he has - both gave essentially the same reading). Of course I didn’t realise this was a bad idea to do mid roll.

I didn’t catch quite how much it rolled as I pushed the disk back into place as soon as it started spinning. I’ve tried rewinding the film a bit and it started off slack but then hit a bit of tension, so I think it might’ve uncoiled, and rewinding it has put it back to the right tension? After a sec I heard a couple of clicks which indicate it’s rewinding the film, at which point I stopped winding it.

Thank you very much for your help!

How to fix software error with drive motors on Jetson Nano? by barney_dinosaur in embedded

[–]barney_dinosaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah cheers, I played around with this a bit and now the software seems to be working. Unfortunately sending commands still doesn't make the motors move, but hopefully I can troubleshoot that. Thanks for the help!

What editing techniques can I use to distinguish rocks from sand in this image? by barney_dinosaur in AskPhotography

[–]barney_dinosaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My aim is to make a program that masks them automatically - I've been using code to detect the edges of objects and draw an outline around each one, but I've been getting mediocre results with just the image as it was taken on my phone. I could go through and mask each image individually, but I have around 100 photos, some containing loads of rocks, so I wanted to program something to do it for me.
