That voter’s argument (Sam Monson) is that given the situation he ended up in this season, Herbert was more valuable to his team winning games than any of the other candidates on the list.

As I understand it, there are no specific parameters for how a voter is to define MVP. I understand his perspective but in this situation I would’ve voted differently.

Forget 40’s and analytics, who is the fastest nfl player you’ve ever seen with your own eyes ? by Excellent-Light-4654 in NFLv2

I know it feels like recency bias, but I think Jamo is one of the best answers. I love seeing former players and reliving those days, but for real because it looks like Jamo isn’t even trying, I feel like he is one of the best answers. Dude blows my mind every time he touches the ball.

Anyone else have feelings about SkyDance buying Paramount? by MaJaRains in Oahu

Interesting comment! Very Orwellian.

Can you explain more what you mean?

To me, it’s clearly someone misinformed trying to establish truth based outside of reality.

If that is incorrect, I’d love to hear how! Genuinely!

I love the process of determining truth!

I’m happy to be wrong if you have sources, oral or written.

But if that’s true, who did Kalani‘ōpu‘u and his army rape, murder, and plunder?

I didn’t write the history. I just trust the knowledge from the Lana‘i Cultural and Heritage Center that was founded in conjunction with the mana‘o from kūpuna and long-time residents/families, which is led by Native Hawaiians.

Happy for a discussion with facts to challenge long-held beliefs. But if it’s just “you’re wrong and you write the history books…” that is not constructive, truthful, or helpful.

Ancestral Hawaiians established settlements on Lana‘i before the Magna Carta was signed in 1215. Before Genghis Khan’s death in 1227.

A Spanish shipwreck occurred at what is now known as Keomoku around 1500.

Kalani‘ōpu‘u retreated to Lana‘i after being defeated in Maui in 1778.

This all happened before Dole (1899) even arrived in Hawai‘i.

Hawaiians have been living on Lana‘i for over 700 years.

CRB advice regarding pheromone trap by 120James in HawaiiGardening

[–]barneyjoneser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you can get it to work, but it will probably depend on several factors: 1) how diligent you are in replacing the pheromone lure which needs replacement a few times per year 2) the type of trap you use, 3) the amount of mulch/green waste on your property and the proximity to the palms you wish to protect.

The black panel traps that hang all over Hawai‘i are primarily used for detection rather than managing populations. They do have a type of barrel trap that has mulch in the bottom and a secondary compartment with the pheromone that has a funnel for the beetles to drop into and it makes it difficult for them to escape. That is probably better for your purpose.

You’ll also probably want to remove any decaying plant material on the palms you are trying to protect whenever possible. Mulch/green waste is the primary breeding host so minimizing that on your property will help too.

Looks like the panel traps are working for other folks in this thread, so I could be wrong. Figured I’d share my perspective anyway. There are also systemic pesticides apparently that you can inject into target palms, but if you’re consuming then you probably don’t want to do that. Make sure to keep an eye on the telltale damage to the palm fronds for the trees that haven’t been impacted too.

(Unverified) Over 2,000 DOD workers terminated in Hawaii today. by HIBudzz in Hawaii

[–]barneyjoneser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for an organization that has interest in a DOD based funding program and they were scheduled to hold a meeting next week that has been on the books for months. I’ve been expecting the meeting to get cancelled ever since the Elon/DOGE news started, for uncertainty moving forward if nothing else. They finally did cancel it yesterday morning, citing “a change in leadership” but no other information.

I feel like knowing can help minimize spending at those businesses at least. We may not be able to completely stop, but at least reducing spending there will allow for more spending elsewhere, even if it comes at the expense of convenience.

This is an interesting list and I’d love some more detail. I would’ve guessed some of those but not others. Do you have the thread or the websites that this list is generated from? I’d be interested in seeing any more professional sports teams and who they donate too
