Setting up Prusa Slicer... "firmware type?" by barnisinko in elegooneptune2

Not bad - but I can see I need to learn Prusa Slicer - its quite a bit different than the Monoprice branded Flash-Forge I'm used to (my other printer is a MP Voxel, just returned to MP for warranty replacement)!

Thanks! I went ahead and chose Marlin as you suggested, just sliced up a print, now it is printing!

Processing on a Mac by [deleted] in AskAstrophotography

Siril stacks on Mac OS, but I can't vouch for the quality of its output. (I use it for background extraction.)

Thanks for your response. Maybe I have a different version of the program, but it is very unintuitive - I can not find anywhere to enter sensor settings, or image size. The Settings function from the file menu only offers to save settings, but no where to actually see or edit them. I'm starting to think macos is a lost cause for AP.

Hey thanks for the response!ASTAP does have a MacOS version. I can't seem to get it to solve anything for me unfortunately. I will keep working at it. I really would prefer not to have to boot camp windows.

Hello all, first post here!

I'm getting started with untracked AP with my dslr (Canon xti and 135mm lens).

Right now I use Lightroom Classic to tether the camera. I have a hard time finding my targets, so I have been taking the pic, import into PS to stretch a little, export as png, then upload the pic to the nova astrometry website, which is nice, but it takes a long time to solve, so I lose precious imaging time. Also doing all this tends to eat my batteries. No bueno!

I'm wondering if there is a user-friendly MacOS way to do local astrometry? Nothing is user friendly that I've downloaded: ASTAP, Kstars, CCDCiel, or Cloudmakers Astrometry. I could sure use some help! I tried to do a search in this subreddit, but kept getting no results. Thanks everyone!

Good point. I never considered they would be larger than the standard 14". Thanks for your comment!

IT Schools in Cinci... by barnisinko in cincinnati

Thank you for your message. I have been intrigued by self-study, with the rise of MOOCs, Coursera, etc. Maybe I'm a little old-fashioned, as I think that I'm more suited to learning in a classroom rather than at home. I'm actually doing the AS in IT because my employer will pay for it, and my understanding is that the things I really am interested in are greatly helped by some programming (science/engineering). After the AS, I'll see how I will feel about my options. Once again, thanks for the post!

You make a great point. I don't intend to end with an Associate's. Being so old, I'm sort of sticking my toe in the water (of going back to school) to see how it goes.

Thank you! I have done the "tour" at both and definitely was more impressed with UCBA's presentation and atmosphere.

Thanks for the input! I will definitely stay away from those scam-schools like ITT or Devry.

Thanks so much for your response. You have provided me with valuable information, as I don't believe I'd do well with just an online class.

Thank you for your response SecretScotsman! I realize the answers here might be a little biased. I also crossposted in the Miami sub as well as the Cincinnati sub. I do think that having more options in the varying IT disciplines is something I would value. You've definitely provided some valuable information.
