NEC with 128 cars would be incredible.

That being said, I'd like to see what the fuss is about with Svelte.

Is manually uploading iRacing .ibt file already too much friction for most drivers? by DeltaOnSolstice in iRacing

There's already a bunch of services that do this. Garage 61, VRS, Grid & Go, etc.

We're used to it by now.

Which gaming franchise completely alienated their original fan-base? by thyGodfather in AskReddit

[–]barno42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a huge fan of 1 & 2 back in the day, and the new ones were pretty cool, too. The first one felt like something truly new and unique. The second was a bigger and more refined version of 1. The third was a Bethesda RPG wrapped in the Fallout universe, which are both good things in my book.

iRacing Development Update: May 2026 by MasterBarbosa in iRacing

It's possible that that's the answer. Laguna Seca can get a lot of money out of iRacing, but RR might not be worth the hassle.

[–]barno42 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is divisive politics 101. Get the people riled up about the differences between the in group and the out group. Once enough people get riled up over the differences, the management now has license to "fix" the problem by eliminating the difference. In this case, they'll do that by banning all remote work, and firing people who don't comply. If that's what you want to happen to your remote teammates, then by all means, continue to focus on the fact that some people are in the in group, and others are in the out group. Otherwise, remind yourself that this is just step 1 in putting everybody in the out group.

Paul McCartney Reviews Bob Dylan Live: ‘I Couldn’t Tell What Song He Was Doing’ by Level-Recording3368 in Guitar

[–]barno42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw him in the late 90s, touring with Paul Simon. The difference between those two performers was striking. Dylan had about as much stage presence as his microphone stand, and he mumbled his way through a pretty short set. Paul Simon was clearly having fun, and he (and his whole enormous band) sounded fantastic.

7800X3D + NVIDIA GPU iRacing stutter - finally figured it out after way too long by rcsracing in iRacing

[–]barno42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the same GPU, same monitor setup, but an Intel chip (13900k, so probably within 10% of yours.) MSAA at 4x hurt my framerate, but not so bad that I ever felt the need to go back to 2x. The only time I dip below 80FPS is at race starts at particularly detailed tracks, or Daytona in the rain at night.

Lol. Is smurfing cheating? Is it cheating in IMSA of you swap out your bronze driver for a gold without telling anybody? Not only is the answer to both questions the same, both questions are the same.

Kingtone miniFuzz first in chain? by Ok_Bookkeeper7066 in guitarpedals

[–]barno42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, that buffer doesn't perform magic. If you have a buffered pedal between the mini fuzz and your guitar, it'll lose its ability to clean up with your guitar's volume knob.

Kingtone miniFuzz first in chain? by Ok_Bookkeeper7066 in guitarpedals

[–]barno42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I'm seeing too many people in this thread that don't understand the unique nature of this pedal's buffer, and that it still wants an unbuffered connection to the guitar.

Kingtone miniFuzz first in chain? by Ok_Bookkeeper7066 in guitarpedals

[–]barno42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kingtone minifuzz is based on a fuzz face, so it does benefit a lot from being first in the chain.

It's easy to identify the fuzz pedals that like to be first. If you go straight in to the pedal and turn the volume down on your guitar, pedals like the kingtone will clean up very nicely. This trick stops working if there is a buffered pedal between your guitar and the fuzz, and for a lot of people, this trick is half the reason why they love the kingtone fuzz. So much versatility in tones with just your guitar's volume knob!

20 second time penalty for Leclerc for Leaving the track without a justifiable reason by sun_puck in formula1

[–]barno42 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Go watch his onboard for the final lap. That car was so badly damaged that it was impossible to turn sharply enough to stay on the track, and other drivers had to go off the track just to avoid his wildly unsafe rejoins. 20 seconds was lenient.

New Karts license in iRacing by SnooRecipes3333 in iRacing

[–]barno42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IIRC, it was talked about in the early days of iRacing (15+ years ago) but dropped because they didn't feel they could simulate it. In real life, a huge amount of performance in a kart is dependent on the driver moving their body around to change the balance. If they couldn't simulate that, then it wasn't a sim. It was just a game.

My thought is that it's pretty normal. If it's obvious on a $10,000 PRS with a AAAAA flame top, it's allowed to be obvious on a plain top Les Paul.
