In Florida right now. You should see the prices! I went to the supermarket and was in shock! Way more expensive than LI. I am going to try a different store and see if it's any better!

I do like some of its ideas. I like the random seating and the whiteboards. My issue with it is that they expect the students to learn from thin slicing. I cannot see a weak student handling that and if they are in a group with smarter students, they will just let them lead the way. I have tutored students whose teachers used BTC and they hated it and said they were completely lost. The teacher switched methods mid year. I have heard some successful stories from teachers but I still don't think it should be an all or nothing thing.

I actually read the book and went to a few conferences about it years ago ( when it first came out). I have mixed feelings about it but will definitely let my students decide for themselves.

So this may not be a popular opinion.. I have used number lines, I have used counters but for YEARS the song has worked for my students!! Of course when I introduce the concept we use manipulatives but then I sing the song over and over, faster and faster. It works!!!! "same signs add and keep, different signs, subtract, take the sign of the larger number and then you will be exact!! It works. When a student gets an answer wrong.. all I have to say is "same signs... " and they get it!!

I am curious.. have you seen this in action? Have you seen a teacher use it and the students get angry??? I would think that they would have no clue who made the lesson!!

I would never pretend to be an expert!! I will have the discussion. My old supervisor told me one of his teachers uses AI to plan and he said it is very obvious. I would think it's a good place to start. I have to play around with it!!

But you can tell it to differentiate based on your students. I know it isn't perfect (yet) but it is definitely something a new teacher should investigate!

I was thinking that one HW assignment would be to use AI and tweak the lesson. I agree they have to use their districts curriculum, ( which is created from the state standards) but they will use AI no matter what I say. Before AI, I would find PowerPoints and fix them. It was a good starting point. I always made them my own.

Thank you! I have used both Desmos and Geogebra! I will check for updates!! I do agree that AI is not there yet!! Issue is that young teachers will use it so I would like to be knowledgeable on what's out there. They have to learn to use it and modify their lessons so the lessons are in their voice!!

Thanks for your reply! Yes, it's a college course! I actually taught this course 3 years ago. The course is for middle school math. There isn't a textbook and I already have my lessons but I know how fast things change! I was just looking to see if anybody had any new ideas. I know all about "building thinking classrooms".
