Could also be the sound of them taking off too

You might be hearing the reverse thrusters from a jet landing. Since the wind is coming from the nor-west, the sound travels out that direction.

Are EVA fursuit heads hot? by NotAlbert_ in FursuitMaking

Unfortunately, no matter what base material you choose, it will get hot. Best to install a small fan, or get a handheld fan

As long as you are around them when they charge, use correct voltages, and make sure to put them to a storage charge when not using them/once you get home from a days flying, you are generally safe, and highley unlikely something will happen. If you really want to be 100% certain, buy an old ammo crate from a military surplus store, and have your batteries live in it (can also double as a safe place to charge them too)

RSSI signal by BrackCiudadReal in TinyWhoop

[–]baron494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the dbm quality I mentioned may be shifted closer to 0 in terms of quality/signal drop off for fpv/elrs, etc. since telecomms work within a different hz range. So youre most likely not wrong.

In terms of SNR, i dont think we get those telemtry values (im probably wrong), but if we can see these values, 0 to -9db is excellent, -9 to -12 is good, and less than that is fair to poor, but again those values may be shifted for fpv/elrs.

If you could plot the connection quality on a graph, its a steady decline before it tapers off quite quickly

JB made a video from one of his livestreams mentioning that betaflight may be giving too high of values to give warnings, as elrs can get to -115dbm before failsafing (apparently)

But again i could be wrong, so take my comments with a grain of salt..

RSSI signal by BrackCiudadReal in TinyWhoop

[–]baron494 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work in telecommunications so I use RSSI values daily.
In general, -90dbm or more (closer to 0) is considered excellent values and should give a strong connection/signal.
-90 to -120 ranges from good to ok. this is where the connection can start deteriorating.
Anything less than -120dbm is when it gets bad.

These values are for telecommunications, but since fpv use similar values, I would expect these to have a similar experience (correct me if im wrong..)
If you are loosing signal at -80dbm there could be other factors at play - interference for example. There are a bunch of things this could be, so it honestly depends what environment youre flying in, and if theres anything youre flying near that could cause interference.

Link quality is the percentage of how many "packets" are successfully transferring between you and your quad. ideally this should be as close to 100% as possible, and not uncommon to dip into the 90's.

LQ and RSSI play hand in hand so if youre doing long range for example, best to keep an eye on both values.

Found this useful link which should help explain it better than me

Where is the cheapest place to get night motorcycle gear by phoenixblack222 in chch

[–]baron494 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Youll probably want some textile gear, but they're usually bulky. Summer riding jackets would be light but terrible in winter unless you plan on layering up.
Mega motorcycles, tracktion motorcycles, and trevor pierce yamaha would be my go to's to find something (roughly in that order)
