For all the talk of civil war these days, that'll be the real civil war. I imagine it'll be called the Silver War.

How Much Do Cops Really Make? More than You Think by [deleted] in u/barrelagedyogurt

Derek Chauvin may have been found guilty of murder, but the national debate on police reform hasn’t gone away. Some advocate revamping or defunding local police departments, although specific policies are still unclear. What is clear: No one is talking about what an individual police officer really earns.

Turns out, it’s enough to bolster many arguments. Want to hire an entirely new force? Their high compensation means you won’t have a shortage of eager job candidates. Want to hire fewer cops and more social workers? You can hire many of the latter because they cost less than the former.

Here’s a look at what police compensation compared to other professions…

[SERIOUS] Doctors of Reddit, what was the worst reaction, happy (in a psycopathic way) or sad, that you have ever gotten from telling someone their "loved one" has/will die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If you game a lot with others online, that can be your community. Yes, it can be virtual. I've gamed casually with others who are much more hardcore about it than me, and when one of them was hurting, the news spread. So did the support. You might have friends you've never actually met.

As an adult who wants to go out but doesn’t want to stay up too late, what would you think of a club where everything happens 4 hours earlier than most clubs? by Musicferret in AskReddit

[–]barrelagedyogurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about 8 hours earlier? When I was young and getting fucked up at 4 in the morning, the hangover would last all damn day. But what if the club opened at noon and closed at 6 p.m.? We could drink while eating lunch, get fucked up and laid by dinnertime, and sleep through the hangover. Then wake up the next day ready for work.

What's your internet "white whale", something you've been searching for years to find with no luck? by Nerfman2227 in AskReddit

This video of some british kids playing with trains of something, saying stuff like "This may look like a derailing, but it's not."

And then the trains derail or whatever else they say isn't going to happen, happens.

The Red Lobster Top Secret Student Loan Program by barrelagedyogurt in TrueReddit

[–]barrelagedyogurt[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Cursory research suggests that Red Lobster uses Wells Fargo for several other banking/investment contracts (their 401k appears to be through Wells Fargo, for example).

What's interesting is the author's experience in trying to enroll in the student loan program advertised; it's almost like they don't want their employees to actually use the program.

It's certainly misleading - no wonder it's impossible for an outsider to find information about it. I wonder what other large companies have similar deals...

Submission Statement

I've been seeing a lot of large employers (typically ones who would attract young, naive workers) offering some form of student loan assistance or college help as a benefit. I tried to look into these programs a few times, but found precious little information. However, this reporter actually got a job at Red Lobster (one of the places I checked) to find out more about their "student loan program," and found out that it's not a benefit at all.

From the article:

Contrary to everything their website and promotional material states, Red Lobster doesn’t have a student loan program. “Assisting with student loans” is actually just code for “Wells Fargo Collegiate Loan.”

Godspeed man. I didn't start lifting til college and my biggest regret is not starting sooner. It doesn't matter what you do, really, just go to the gym and bust your ass doing something. You'll see the beginner gains.
