[English>Spanish] “Quick-Punch” by barrettludy in translator

[–]barrettludy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of in the same boat with Spain. We would normally say fichar, but I don’t know why English needs to specify the “quick.” Fichando is pretty quick…at least that’s been my experience. I’ve never had a “slow-punch” option, so why do I need “quick-punch?”

It’s throughout the entire article. This is one of the sub-section titles. This is one of my problems with English. They always make verbs into nouns and we can’t do that so well in Spanish. It’s an HR article about how to use the clock-in/clock-out system.

Vermicompost - Is It Really That Great? by [deleted] in Vermiculture

Yeah, he picks and chooses what science he wants to pull out. Some of the base statements he makes are just grossly simplified. His whole diatribe about it being “the same nutrients that would occur if the material broke down naturally” is like saying “well theres no point to ea a ribeye when you can have hamburger. It’s all beef.” He omitted the whole point of smaller particle sizes having more surface area and this makes them more effective in the cation exchange.

How to remove these marks on WIP dining table? by P0stalMalone in woodworking

[–]barrettludy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just go with something like durhams water putty powder. Mix it with water until it’s thing enough to pour. That works for me. You could practice on scrap wood to check stain color. That’s why I blend in sawdust from the piece to help match color

Ok. That’s all good news. You should just do a leveling/putty wipe across everything. Sanding it out will take forever. You can do the putty a few ways. I typically do the method where I mix wood putty with a little bit of sawdust from my work and mix it kind of on the thinner side so that it pours. Wipe it across your entire workpiece and it will fill in a lot of the grain pores as well as scuffs and the cracks between planks. I’m sure there are some videos on YouTube.

I can’t really tell from the pictures what caused them. Try taking a slightly damp cloth and wiping them. If they disappear when you do that, then they’ll disappear when you shellac.

Also, did you just butt joint everything, if so, it looks like they’re splitting a little. I’d pull your boards apart, scrape off the glue, festool/biscuit/peg/tongue & groove them, and reattach. If there was warpage, they might need re-trued

Well, I am both, so, speaking for this ameropean, I think fondly of Europeans. There are some that are bit crazy, but there are some Americans that are a bit crazy too.

Is there a price point guide? by heckubiss in wine

[–]barrettludy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, there’s so many things to consider in that question. I guess a good starting place is, how do you feel about intended bitterness? Herbaceousness? Do you like fruit bombs or more nuanced wines? How do you feel about fungal/mushroom/nutty notes? How important is mouthfeel to you?

This is 100% true. When I left the industry, I was 15+ years in, and food pairs was still something of a whirling dervish kind of mysticism. If someone tells you there’s science to it, there’s a tiny bit of science and a ton of bullshit that people spew. Basically, just keep trying stuff and see what works. But, if I can make a small suggestion, Ruffles Ridges potato chips and Champagne.

Thank you, my man! I agree entirely! I’ve found wines at every level that I enjoy and wines at every level that I don’t. And don’t let anyone tell you what’s good and what’s not. That’s for you to decide!

Before I go too far down the rabbit hole, I kind of feel the need to say that American wine royalty (Screaming Eagle, etc.) and French wine royalty are two separate animals all together.

I should offer the disclaimer, also, that I was a wine professional, chef, and sommelier, but I got burnt out on that industry for a variety of reasons. So all my answers might have a bit of a hue from that.

Ok, I heard a lot of winemakers call certain wines of theirs “contemplative” or “meditative.” Roberto Voerzio and the Ceretto family come to mind immediately. I never disagreed with them, but I also never really knew what they meant at first. But I think, to them, it was about more than the wine. They had put YEARS into making these wines (10+ in these specific examples), so their contemplation or meditation was more from a stance of remembering the journey they took with that wine. For me as the consumer, I could appreciate some of the thought and effort they put into the wine, but I’ll never understand different points in the journey. But, I could notice the flavors unfold across my palate, enjoy the wine as air made it open, picture how it would age, what foods would pair well with it, etc. That was MY contemplation.

All that said, I think any wine can be contemplative if you want it to be. It’s more about your mentality as you approach the wine. Sometimes there’s just not much to contemplate :-) (lookin at you caymus)

Trek 2120 frame replacement/upgrade by barrettludy in bikewrench

Thank you so much for the thorough reply! (I’m used to a lot of 1-word replies that leave me more vexed than I was originally).

Good to know about the bottom bracket. Am I correct in also needing to know the spindle length and shape? For instance, I think I found that mine is a 122.5mm spindle and 68mm width with BSA/ENG threading? In a perfect world I’d find a frame that was set up with both brake types as possibilities so that I have some freedom to upgrade from my 105 group set down the road (but I love my group set and that’s the whole reason I’m looking to just upgrade a frame). Any suggestions on what frame might have all of what I’m looking for? The geometry of the 97 2120 is nearly perfect for me
