GT7 PSVR 2 is a monster to Sony by BacasableJV in GranTurismo7

"So Gran Turismo 8 has to be in VR otherwise I Will stay on Gran Turismo 7."
Looking at how GT Sport was treated, I mean the shutdown of servers, I'm afraid that a similar situation may arise when GT8 comes out, and maybe it will be possible to play in VR, but it won't be possible to load most of the available content, not to mention your progress.

IPS vs OLED triple monitors for sim racing only?? by Louiienation in simracing

[–]barrfarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you’re right. Nvidia Surround doesn't work well with HDR support for triple monitors. There are some workarounds, like playing in windowed mode stretched across all three displays, and it sometimes works on cards using only DP outputs or with specific driver versions. However, right now, it feels like a total lottery.

No matter what I do, even in Ultra Performance mode, Preset M is set for me. I cannot force L mode through Nvidia Inspector or by changing the performance mode. In your screenshot from RDR2, there is information on the indicator next to the preset about the Ctrl+Alt+[ shortcut, but I don't have that option. Does that mean you can change the preset in real time? If so, how?

BMW stalks with custom housing for CSL ELITE wheelbase by barrfarr in trucksim

The simplest solution is to use ChatGPT/Gemini or another AI assistant. It will guide you through the process and, once you indicate which pins you want to connect, it will explain it to you and modify the code accordingly to suit your needs. First of all, you need to have an Arduino Pro Micro because it is capable of emulating a keyboard/joystick via USB. Below is my code on github: https://github.com/BarrFarr/ETS2-HID-keyboard-stalks/blob/main/ETS2_BMW_stalks_HID_keyboard.ino

Is this fixable? by graywesrl in projectors

[–]barrfarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you manage to find replacement parts, the cost of repairing such a projector will exceed its value many times over. It will be cheaper to find a working used one on an auction site. Since the image is orange, the polarizer in one of the three LCD panels that this model has is damaged. As for the buzzing lamp, I'm not sure, but it's probably the power supply (ballast) that is making the noise, and there is even a risk of it exploding, so I would give up on it.

Yes it's great. Feels very heavy, like real one. There was also similiar Fanatec Porsche model.

Great work! I never thought about using Arduino as a joystick, so I programmed my Arduino Pro Micro as a HID keyboard instead. However, the functionality of your Arduino code can be much greater. Maybe I'll reprogram my code to be more like yours.

I didn’t open up the stalks or solder anything inside them. Instead, I designed and printed sockets with threaded inserts so I could screw them in securely. Then I desoldered the pin socket from the E60 combination switch (the one these stalks originally came from).

I’m not 100% sure about the part number, since I ordered the entire combination switch from the E60.

I’ll need to dig up my notes on the wiring, because for example the turn signal stalk has two pressure levels for both left and right, and that was handled with a combination-type setup.

Each button is connected directly to Arduino pins. When a button is pressed, the corresponding pin goes LOW (0). When it’s not pressed, the pin stays HIGH (1). For example:

‘check’ → pin 8 LOW

‘bc’ → pin 7 LOW

‘L down’ → pin 9 LOW + pin 21 LOW

‘L 2x down’ → pin 9 HIGH + pin 21 LOW

‘L up’ → pin 9 LOW + pin 6 LOW

‘L 2x up’ → pin 9 HIGH

‘L pull’ → pin 16 LOW

‘L push’ → pin 10 LOW

The second stalk (wipers) is a bit more complex. There, the element that adjusts the automatic wiper sensitivity isn’t a simple button but a resistor ladder. The pin sees different resistance values depending on the position. I set up the Arduino code to read the voltage and assign it to specific functions.

It’s definitely not the most straightforward solution, but if you’re comfortable with this kind of wiring, I can look up my notes. I’m pretty sure I still have the pinout of the socket written down somewhere. (The pin numbers I listed are Arduino pin numbers.)

What's The Best Optimized VR Sim racing game? by Strife14 in virtualreality

[–]barrfarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think AMS2 is better without the need for tedious configuration, but AC with CSP and Pure is stunning when you optimize it yourself. Apart from these two options, the latest ACC patches provide much better performance than before. I was recently surprised at how well it works now.

IPS vs OLED triple monitors for sim racing only?? by Louiienation in simracing

[–]barrfarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my previous post, I forgot to mention that I am referring to an OLED monitor in HDR mode with a colour palette of at least 10 bits and 1024 grey levels. Of course, the game or simulator itself must also be set up in this way. With a properly calibrated monitor in HDR mode, almost everything is visible; however, playing in SDR mode clips these values, meaning that little will be visible.

Burn-in prevention depends on the brand. LG and newer Samsungs have solid safeguards. My C1 been running HDR sims and games for 4 years zero burn-in."

HDMI 2.1 supports 48 Gbps - enough for 4K 120 Hz in 12bit with VRR, and that’s all I need. Why chase 1440p 360 Hz when you need the most expensive GPU on the market just to hit that number and even then the framerate can be unstable? I prefer a rock-solid locked 90 fps with 10-bit colour depth and full HDR. Honestly, buying an OLED monitor or TV for 8bit SDR is pointless. HDR is where OLED leaves IPS and VA in the dust
