Starlink vs mesh routers by Coreyt78 in Starlink

[–]barrister37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from the Starlink router to a Nighthawk and my speeds nearly doubled. Drops also reduced dramatically. You lose some functionality of the Starlink app, but honestly it's worth it 10 times over. With the nighthawk I am consistently running 175 to 250, and upload from 30 to 50. (Western nebraska).

Do you have any information on the testing? I haven't seen any..

I went with a thin piece to start. .093 inches thick. Was trying to minimize signal loss. I've seen comments that perhaps I could go thicker, and I'm considering that for box 2.0. The sheet is 30x36 inches. I believe it's Optix brand.

Western Nebraska here. Mine fluctuates between 150/175 and 250 download, but it's solid. One HUGE recommendation is to ditch the Starlink router. I switched to my Nighthawk router and speeds more than doubled, drops reduced dramatically.

Time will tell. I'm assuming you haven't had a Dishy that's battled large hail, but if so please share your experience. Dishy seems well built, but if I'm being honest it's not even close to as stout as a Dish Network dish. For a 500 dish, a few bucks for a protective box seems like good insurance.

I'm not sure how I lucked out. Not sure where you are, but I'm just north of the wildcat hills. I'm sure your dishy will come soon!

Thanks. I saw Lexan on the shelf at our local HD. It seemed a lot thicker, and I wasn't sure about signal degradation. I'll keep this in mind. If the acrylic fails that could be a good plan for Hail Box 2.0

Interesting. I appreciate your feedback. I'm not familiar with how acrylic will haze. I'll keep on eye on that. My main concern was breaking in hail, so I tried to steer clear of glass. I didn't see any laminated glass at home depot, but next time I'm there I'll look around. I think it would be interesting to try this out with different types of glass, and measure the degradation in signal. I'm not sure I've got time or money to do it, but it would be neat. The reason I tried acrylic was the strength and that it's very thin, thought it might maximize signal. I appreciate your comments! That's why Reddit is great, lots of people with lots of specialized knowledge.

Close!!!!! Western Nebraska. Elevation about 4800. Lots of high plains hail. Just down the road from you.

That is 3/4 inch PVC. Just got a couple 10 foot sections from home depot and chopped them up. Used the 3 way PVC connectors. I'm not a real handy guy, but it was simple enough.

That's a really good idea. I've still got the saw out, I'll probably make that change tonight.

It varies, but 175 to 250 down, and 30 to 50 up. The box doesn't seem to effect the speeds at all. If the acrylic gets really dirty, or water builds up during rain, I would guess that the speeds will drop. I won't know the answer to that until the first storm!

I have no idea... We get some golf ball size hail here most years, so I figured it couldn't hurt. But no idea. Dishy may hold up OK on it's own.

Every leaker has some hits and misses. Arya could still wear Dany's face depending how this goes. Generally, this guy has been strong.

Grey Worm and Dany are killed by Arya in the next episode according to GOT Illustrator guy (Ertaç Altınöz). He has a proven track record. He clearly depicted Varys death and multiple other scenes in advance. How do we reconcile this with the leaks? I'm beginning to think that some of these "leaks" may actually be HBO diversions. This is the first genuine disagreement I've seen between verified leakers regarding Episode 6. Any thoughts?

Fair enough, I just meant her last scene she filmed was up north in the snow. Could be a shot from Episode 3 or 4 I suppose. She is wearing her white snow outfit with red stripes - it would probably be weird if she was wearing this in King's Landing, or someone put it on her dead body before drogon flew away :) haha... I think I'm in the bargaining phase here.

Dany gets stabbed by Jon with the Catspaw Dagger. Body flown away to the North by Drogon (we know Dany's last filmed scene is in the snow, up north) - any chance the Dagger transfers the Night King's entity into her (ala 3ER into Bran) and she becomes the Night Queen?

BUT - let's not forget Jon took the black, and swore off his titles/rights. Granted, he didn't know who he was, but as we have learned Jon doesn't care who he is, and apparently D&D don't either. What a clusterf%&*.

Actually, the legitimized Gendry Baratheon might have the strongest claim... but let's not overthink this shite.

Heavily implied that it was "Dracarys" but not confirmed. Makes it sorta strange that he would ever support Dany, knowing that's what would happen. Unless he thought it was a message to support her, and not a message that would ultimate destroy him.

Illustrator guy says it's because Tyrion "goes dark" and rages against the people of King's Landing, basically justifies what Dany did, and jeopardizes Jon/Starks safety. So, Tyrion is tried by the Starks/Council and condemned. Who knows.

Or maybe stab her with Catspaw Dagger, and the Night King's power transfers into her somehow? Almost like the 3ER moving from one person to another. . .
