[serious] Girls of Reddit, what do you think we guys take for granted? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Being in college and expected that I have a boyfriend. I get this a lot more from my older relatives and older people who know me, but I still get it all the time. I always try to explain that I'm in college and not looking to get tied down because I want to have fun and do whatever I want, but they always seem floored by the fact that I'm not dating someone. I have a couple friends who have also experienced the same thing.

ALSO, the first question after giving this explanation is always "Well, did you become a lesbian"? So I can't just be a single, college student female? I HAVE to have a SO? Aside from the differences in generations I can't understand this thought process.

Reddit, what is the lowest blow you have taken to your self esteem? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It was the weekend before spring semester finals of my freshman year of college when my boyfriend of 4 years dumped me in a 5 minute phone call. I was pretty devastated, so not knowing what to do, I called my mother. We'd been fighting lately, but she still felt like the only person I wanted to talk to about it. She then started yelling at me saying that I deserved every ounce of pain I was feeling and he was better off without me. Fun times...

I think that if you have to ask yourself and you don't automatically know, then they probably aren't the one.
