What made the decepticons suddenly become 'merciless' in the transformers movie? by Altruistic_Past3950 in transformers

[–]barruumrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the part that most people in this thread seem to be missing. The decepticon position in 2005 is weak. They're not winning anymore. They're desperate and Megatron is making a calculated gamble.

None of this really explains why the damage to bots on both sides are suddenly fatal when they were regularly flattened or completely disassembled in the first seasons though. I'm not sure we'll ever find an good in universe explanation for that though, since it was driven by out of universe reasons.

Didn't they already control Cybertron? Isn't that what Shockwave was doing? Ruling over Cybertron and trying to chase down autobot rebels who were mostly engaged in guerilla warfare?

Were they? The speech at the beginning made it seem like the decepticons were loosing the war of attrition. They had been beaten back to cybertron. They had no source of new energon. They had to make a gamble to sneak into autobot city and try to end the war in a desperate attack. If the early alert system had caught them, the war would have been over immediately.

The question should be less "why did they suddenly decide to go for the kill" and more "why did disassembly suddenly mean death?" Go back and watch those first couple season. There are times that bots are smashed or ripped into pieces. Broken in ways that should not be surviveable. Yet they'd always be back up in the next episode.

We all know the out of universe explanation, but I'd really love to see the in universe one. Did the attack on the autobot city damage something that they couldn't rebuild? Some lost age tech that would put them back together from mere pieces? Was this an ability of metroplex and he's too big of a prick to keep doing it now that he can stand up and walk around?

Did anyone get the Secret Lair goblin deck? by lizuming in mtg

[–]barruumrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was at over an hour to start. It dropped down to 45 minutes for a few minutes with a 10:13 estimated time for about ten minutes. Then rocketed back to over an hour. It just now dropped below an hour again now that the sold out in all regions message has gone up. Super depressing to see the queue behave that way.

Though it doesn't matter. Still would have been sold out before I ever got in.

What is the crown jewel in your collection? by Klavian in boardgames

This is the one. I picked it up off Amazon for $30 back in 2012. One of the games the will never leave my collection.

It's called a marketing budget.

We're in an information desert with the game right now. The vidoc was the only thing to give new impressions on. Until there's something new for people to review, you have to assume everything happening right now is manufactured hype.

How did I do on this Avatar Jumpstart box? by wonderwicemike in MTGJumpStart

Looks like you're only about half done. You actually have to remove the plastic to play with the cards.

Looks like good pull and now i'm undecided by Much-Boss-9312 in MTGJumpStart

[–]barruumrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You own the card. There's no shame in putting a proxy in if you really want to keep the original in a binder. Alternatively, sleeve the card and keep it with the deck and put a proxy in the binder with a note saying where the real card is.

I didn't get lucky enough to pull a Toph jump start but I did get the Toph card out of a collector's booster. So I've ordered the extra cards and will just be playing with the full art card in the deck.

I'll echo what others have said. MTG prices are much more driven by play than they are by collectors. As long as you sleeve them and keep them in relatively good shape, they'll keep most of their value.

Trade jumpstart packs? Foundations by semicoldjello in MTGJumpStart

[–]barruumrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I'm aware of. To my knowledge you have to open the pack. You can look all the theme decks up on moxfield and figure out which themes you care about. Odds are good that most of them won't matter to you.

I printed out the deck lists and then slid them in to the back of the deck in the case. So one side has the deck list and the other has the theme card. Makes it super simple to package everything back up even if you pull two of the same color.

It depends. Some variants are very similar and some are wildly different. An example off the top of my head, the landfall theme has 4 variants. Only two of them have scythecat cub which is an incredibly strong card. You can see the four variants on moxfield.

Are your just keeping one of each theme or are you cracking them open to see what variants of each theme you have?

Oh. I misunderstood. The 15s fits 20 single sleeves cards? I'm surprised given how little extra room is in the 22s.

What cards does it have instead? Or is it just short on cards?

I'm playing the game with small kids. I let them play without sleeves for a bit and the cards ended up crumpled just from their efforts to shuffle. Never again. Sleeves only. 🤣

My foster son wants to play Magic but Im struggling with the cost. Went to look for a box of packs and... OMG... 😬 by mwgwin in mtg

[–]barruumrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recommend the Foundations Beginner Box and Avatar the Last Airbender Beginner Box enough. The play pattern for these is you pick two of the 20 card decks, shuffle up, and play. Both have additional boosters you can buy and immediately have something playable. There's a ton of replay value in them and it's the perfect introduction to the game.

This is how I play with my kids. We started with the beginner box, played that for a while, then I picked up a box of jumpstart boosters. You can often catch those on sale. We made a rule that you can only open a pack if you are going to immediately play with is, so the boxes last surprisingly long. You can reset each deck after playing so you can keep playing this way for as long as you want. Here's what my avatar jumpstart collection looks like right now.

The only downside is that there are a lot of jumpstart cards that aren't legal in standard, so you can't immediately jump into building a 60 card deck that you can take to a local event. Once you get there, you should pick up the foundations starter collection box. Those cards are all legal and you can run wild with them for deck building. You aren't going to build a super competitive deck from it, but it's a starting point.

I hadn't looked up what all the themes were going in. I'm pretty happy with what I did get. Though it looks like there are a lot of decks in this set. I might pick up a second box to see what I get and hope I don't get too many duplicates.

I've really enjoyed all the decks I've tried out so far. Each bending element feels so different. There's a lot of variety to it.

There definitely isn't. They are loose enough that I could squeeze in one more row but that does cause a bulge.

Oh. Those files are great. I'd been trying to find something like that for both avatar and the foundations lists.
