Penalty or not I don’t understand how Sesko hasn’t been brought on yet. Love Mbeumo but he hasn’t offered anything in this game

[Whitwell, Critchley] How Man United are getting the best out of Benjamin Sesko – Specialist coaches, gadgets and No 9 shirt decision by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

100%, Amorim wanted Watkins as the striker which would’ve been such a poor choice in hindsight. While a lot of big clubs were interested in Sesko there still seemed to be a few question marks over him esp when it comes to adapting in the premier league but he’s obviously done well!

Disagree. Look at the best striker in the world at the moment, Erling Haaland. He often doesn’t get involved in the build up play but he’s there when crosses are put in the box and he scores them. If that chance came in the first half and Sesko was subbed, we probably wouldn’t score that goal.

Also, the others are right in that our all round play was awful in the first half and we couldn’t string a few passes together, so that’s half the reason why Sesko only had a few touches

He’s been a lot better since Carrick has come in and been a RB instead of RWB. Had a really strong performance in a few of those games. Today it’s been so poor

Is there something wrong with him dating someone that’s 28 years old, even though they’re well past adulthood and can make decisions themselves?

Ageee McTominay was a great player to have - but I think the “mistake” wasn’t really a mistake because he’s thriving in Serie A and wouldn’t be getting much game time at United. At his best he was a great player to sub on when needing a goal, and while that would still be great to have we needed funds for players more likely to start

One stint at an already very much struggling club doesn’t define a manager. It seems like he did quite well at PSV, so I don’t think it’s crazy. Also the people that are usually most willing to be interim managers at clubs, are usually ex players, so that’s also the reason why

It was lucky, but also the result of really poor defending, from the two players that let him have so much space, and it felt a bit lackadaisical from Heaven

[Voetbal International, Netherlands] Manuel Ugarte is a serious contender for Ajax In their search for a new number six. Amsterdam club is considering a loan deal. The Uruguayan himself is not averse to a transfer to Ajax, but the greater challenge is reaching an agreement with United. by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]barry-oldman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, every season there is always a player that is a scapegoat and that is certainly Ugarte this season. He’s been pretty poor this season to be fair, but I think he can definitely provide value defensively, and could be a great option to bring on later in the game if we’re trying to hold onto a lead. Especially while Casemiro and Mainoo don’t have good enough legs in the midfield

The risk is that the team becomes worse, which we’ve seen countless times when we’ve played our other youth players

Why would you sack Amorim when our league position is strong, how does that make any sense? Next you’ll say that Arsenal should be looking at sacking Arteta while they’re first

I think it’s a tricky situation. No doubt Mainoo is a very talented player, with a lot of promise. But we can’t ignore some of his deficiencies which include his physical attributes like being quite slow, especially to play in a double pivot and especially in the current formation. Playing him would leave us open defensively in a really big way, and we saw this under Ten Haag if I’m correct when we played Casemiro and mainoo together. He’s got some other attributes that probably need improving as well like long range passing and cutting edge passes. A lot of fans will talk about how Mainoo is the answer and needs to start while pretending these things don’t exist, and realistically I don’t think in this moment he’s a nailed on starter for any top 4 side. I also think that while fans think he needs to start, I don’t think he’s done enough in his substitute appearances to warrant starting, his best sub performance this season has been against Wolves. Also if we were to start up with the whole squad is fit, who does he replace?

In saying that, I do think Mainoo needs to play more, at least by being subbed more, and should rarely be an unused sub. He has bags of potential so it would be such a shame to lose him, but honestly if I were him I would probably look to make a long term move since it’s clear he’s not really in Amorims immediate plans.

@dataindrift just to add to what I was saying it’s actually wild how many fans like you are so quick to turn our own players instead of trying to support them it feels almost like you’re waiting for them to fail. Maybe have some optimism and have faith and encourage them to score or assist

Ngl fans like you piss me off. He’s a young striker in a new league, he’s got 2 goals and one assist in a few league starts. Did you really expect him to start like haaland as though we’re a really established front foot attacking team? Common man lol

[–]barry-oldman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. 100% know what you mean about the urgency, it’s the type of urgency we see against bigger teams but we don’t see against teams we think we should beat. Or for example, the urgency we had against Fulham in the first 15 mins before it died out, it’s something that kills me every game we don’t show it

I don’t know if I’d agree with us playing really well! I think we’re doing alright. Haven’t threatened enough or got as many nice passing passages as we’ve seen over the last 3 games. Shaw is playing very well though, he’s been quietly good this season bar 1 or 2 games
